Summary
Soulmates are fucking stupid. Izzy’s always thought that. Growing up small, weak, and penniless, clawing his way through life one day at a time, always just a little bit surprised that he survived another night, Izzy’s never had much use for the concept. Didn’t help either that he thought he didn’t have one until he was twenty and the sailor he was about to get to know in the biblical sense asked him why he’d get a phrase like that tattooed in a place like there.
Izzy thought it was a joke at first, albeit a shit one, but an hour later with a mirror in hand, he confirms the universe’s twisted sense of humor.

Summary
Edward had never been willing to touch him softly without hurting him first. Bonnet always needed to be convinced of his worth. But a few nights a week Izzy could have it all, could have their scent and sweat on him. An hour of torture was the price for a few minutes of warm praise and Izzy gladly paid for the privilege.
Or, Izzy believes that kindness can only be earned through blood and pain, Ed doesn't know how much longer he can keep this up, and Stede can't imagine how they've made it this long.
