Summary
Obviously, truth is stranger than fiction, and there’s always going to be edge cases in the real world, but for our purposes: just how realistic is Armand’s tragic backstory?
Judging by the number of retweets/reblogs on this post and others like it, fannish opinion seems to be “not very”. But honestly? It’s not that far-fetched.
Or: a fannish academic does a deep dive into the most controversial character in Daniel Molloy’s new novel.

Summary
The strings wrapped him in their web, starting from his chest and twisting and fluttering around him.
There were friends at the ends of these strings, Mr. Spider had told him as a child. He just had to follow the strings where they lead.
There were victims at the ends of these strings, The Mother had told him. They would be delicious. With curiosity, Jon reached out and let the bright red string curl around his finger freely. The most beautiful, he thought. It tightened around him. In response, Jon gave it a gentle tug.
Instantly, his vision was overtaken.
Tea, made perfectly with milk and a dash of sugar and a lot of love. A deep, deep loneliness. A lie on a resume. White fog, dusty shelves full of documents, a sound like wet pasta. Fear, fear, fear. Jon’s face, all eight of his eyes open, gazing sharply at something behind him.
Love, love, love. So much love.
A gunshot.
“Martin!” Jon gasped, coming to. “Who the hell is Martin?”
Or:
Jon doesn't escape Mr. Spider, and becomes a child avatar of the Web. This changes some things, but not others.
Now complete!

Summary
"Fucking Margo, Margo and her “have fun boys!”. Now he was nervous. It wasn’t even—they were looking for a book. Yes, Eliot had dressed in one of his favorite outfits, but that was irrelevant. There was never a time to not wear an ensemble of choice, life was far too short. You never knew who you were going to find out in the world, particularly New York.
(And if Quentin happened to take him in a little startled, deer-caught-in-brief-but-intense-headlights look that spread warmth all over Eliot’s body... well, bonus.)”
1x03, but Eliot and Quentin have a mini-date after the blow-up with Julia, and Kady doesn't interrupt. (Technically not a Non-Beast!AU but that doesn't come up.)

Summary
Eliot keeps vigil.
"You need to understand that he - he did this for us, for everyone. He had to take a risk and it worked, but he was hurt real bad, El. He’s - I can’t honestly say that he’s okay. He’s still out."
Eliot took a moment to process this information, that Quentin was hurt, which meant he was nearby, but he wasn’t all right, which meant in some ways he was not nearby, and in some ways he was becoming less nearby by the second, and every moment Eliot was laid up and not closer to him was a waste because what if he was never nearby again?

Summary
Remus loves Sirius, and Sirius loves Remus.
That’s just the way it is—call it a law of the universe or just the way the world works—but after four years away, Remus gets a call from Sirius asking him if he remembers a promise they made freshman year.
And, of course, Remus remembers. How could he not?
Something like a love story from the summer of 1978, full of Southern Cuts and Old Style, shitty motel rooms, and questionable decisions. Poor excuse for poetry and late night dancing, a trip to Vegas, and one too many honeymoon suites.
Cherry pop rocks, too-tight pants, and a road trip across the U.S.

“So then, before I can even think about doing something stupid like trying to stab him with his fucking golden paperknife, he gives me a choice, see?" Haymitch continued, almost detached. "Either I play nice like all the other victors or he will kill my family. I could either become his puppet – greatest punishment he could give me, according to him – or I could become the example.”

Summary
Brittle and battle-worn, Cas looks at him over coffee one morning and says, "I need to go," and Dean instantly knows that he's not coming back.
He's not really sure how he knows it, but he does. It settles into the pit of his stomach, curling hot and tight like something he instinctively wants to tear out with his bare hands. He takes a breath, and it gets stuck in his throat, hitching there. It hurts, hurts, hurts when he finally exhales.
"Yeah," Dean says, "of course you do," and he nods jerkily as he looks down at his phone. He doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't look up from the screen when Cas gets up and leaves the room. He doesn't finish his coffee, or move for a long time.
By nightfall, Cas is gone.
