His shoes shine in the sunlight, and though she isn’t close enough to hear, she imagines they click click click on the cobblestones of the market square. It’s just past high noon, past the lunch rush, the perfect time for thievery because everyone is in a hurry to get back to work and out of the heat of the day. People in a hurry have a tendency not to notice small hands slipping into jacket pockets. They do not notice her watching on the roof, either, because people never notice crows.

Not literally, of course - he still has Kay, and Mr. Edgeworth, and Justine, and some of his coworkers, but in terms of family… there’s no one left. And so, by nature of being the sole DeBeste heir, Sebastian finds himself in sudden possession of all of his father’s belongings - including his house.
Sebastian does not want to be in the DeBeste house.
