Summary
“No.”
That was the only word out of Dean’s mouth before he ran a hand over his face, grabbing his duffel. “You’re staying here, in this motel room. If you so much as a step one foot out of here-”
“I know, Dean.” June rolls her eyes, twisting her leather bracelet around her left wrist. “You’ll find out and ground me. I’ve got it.”
Dean just stares June down for a moment longer, June refusing to be the one to break eye contact first, before he shakes his head, nodding for Sam to head to the Impala. Sam pauses at the door, catching June’s eye, and with just one look she knows what she has to do. “We’ll be a couple of days, max.” Dean gestures to the wooden bedside table where her Blackberry lies, the battery flat. “Keep your phone on.”

Summary
The water had long since gone cold, trickling down June’s back. She hardly felt the chill of the water as her usually light hair sags heavy, dripping down onto the bottom of the shower. When she reaches one arm out, twisting the knob to the right and turning off the water, it is almost as if she isn’t connected to her body; as if her mind is something completely separate.
She killed someone today. For the first time, that is. June can’t help but relive the moment, over and over, in her mind. She was the one who pulled the trigger. She watched as the body fell, slumped over lifeless, blood pooling and staining the wooden floorboards.
Dean was proud. He rested his hand on her head, ruffled her hair and offered her a smile.
“You did good, kid,” he said. June feels anything but. She ended a life of her own volition. Sure, it was a shifter, but the way it died was so overwhelmingly human June can’t help but feel guilty. She’d never been the reason a body dropped before, but she guesses it was only a matter of time.

Summary
June stands, running a hand over her greasy braids. “I saw a library not far from here. They might have something, I don’t know.” Sam’s eyes are red-rimmed when she meets his gaze, and she knows that they mirror her own. “I can’t just stay here and count down the hours until Dean is practically mutilated, Sammy. I can’t do it.”

Summary
“I’m okay,” she says, her head rolling back to rest against Sam’s shoulder blade. Two rickety, wooden chairs had been pushed together back to back in the middle of the crumbling room, mold crawling up the walls and the faint smell of damp permeating the air. They were both tied to the legs of the chairs, zip ties keeping their shins in place and wrists together. Despite June’s assurance that she was okay now that she was awake, Sam had yet to move his hand from where it held hers, and June took it as her only form of comfort.
