“Batman is dead! He died! He won’t— He won't be waiting at home for you, Dick—”
“Shut up! Shut the fuck up!” Dick pulled his arm away and covered his face with his hands. “Shut up! Stop— Shut up!”
Clark hesitated. He let his grief get the better of him. He took a steadying breath and softened his voice, “I’m sorry— Please—”
Dick sniffled and shook his head, curling into himself. “He— he can’t be— I just— I just talked to him yesterday—”
Maybe I shouldn’t have told him. Maybe it should’ve been someone else. Clark felt remorseful, he felt out of place.
“He’s waiting for me— He needed me to—”
Clark pulled him into a hug, he rested his cheek on the top of his head. “I know, son. I know… It’s— It’s not fair.”
The boy resisted the embrace for a second, before returning it tenfold, holding to Clark as if he were a lifeline. Dick sobbed openly into Clark’s chest, driving a knife into his heart with every “Bruce” he blubbered.
Bruce had never said so himself, but it was clear to everyone around the man that Dick Grayson was his pride and joy. The boy with a heart as big as the world was Bruce’s most precious person— and as Clark held the little boy in his arms, he understood his boyfriend’s hellbent urge to keep him safe.
For the first time, Clark allowed himself to cry for Bruce.

Warm. Even though he knew the moment he walked in the door, knew the terrible stillness in the room, and saw the small singed place on the rug from a dropped cigarette, he had still been warm, sliding limply against Vash like he had a hundred other times before: dozing off beside him on the bus, or leaning back comfortably on some rickety hotel bed. As if he was simply asleep, sure to wake up and tell Vash to shut the hell up, couldn't he see that he was tired? How could a guy get any rest with some spiky-headed idiot clinging to him and blubbering something stupid about love and blame? Crissakes, Vash, how'd I get stuck with a sentimental moron like you?
Silence. Only silence, and one man weeping.
