Cloud is thrown back in time and physically altered by JENOVA, which is a problem but not enough of one to keep him from exploding the Nibelheim reactor and sending the Mansion up in flames. No, the real problem is the flamboyant red-clad SOLIDER asshole who takes one look at him and decides that kidnapping a rogue experiment is a charitable thing to do.
Maybe he shouldn't have dodged the name question by calling himself "Subject C."

Aware of Tifa and all of Avalanche’s eyes locked onto him, Cloud takes a deep breath and slowly turns on the bar stool to look at the new arrival.
Hair the exact same shade of blonde as his own, even falling about in a comparable spiky pattern in the front. A face that looks like Cloud himself in the mirror a few years ago. The eyes are new, more violet in color than the last time Cloud remembers seeing them (and Gods, it’s really been years).
“Prompto,” the ex-Soldier breathes.
His little brother continues to stare at him in disbelief, before Prompto’s face screws up and a quiet noise escapes him.
“Aw man,” Prompto’s voice wobbles as he goes to cover his face with a hand.
Cloud’s up and across the room before he even thinks about it.

When Cloud Strife fell in action, everyone was just happy to hear he survived. For Cloud though, he wonders if there are worse things than being dead.
Years of his life are gone. No memories. Nothing. Not to mention that his mind barely seems able to function normally ever since he woke up. He's not sure if he'll ever be normal again, or if he'll ever remember what he lost. He can only hope to have a new life worth remembering. Even if he may never be cleared for military duty again. Hopefully his friends can help him find new dreams to live for.

He’s like business royalty, the exact opposite of Prompto. He’s not exactly jealous, though, even if that means that this dark-haired boy is beyond rich. Prompto is free to do pretty much whatever he wants, barring it costs any money, and it seems like Noctis is stuck in a life he doesn’t want to be in. Everything comes at a cost, though. He thinks maybe he wouldn’t mind being a little trapped if it meant being surrounded by people like this, people who love him.
