Tommy is fourteen now. The last house was one of the worst, and Tommy’s pretty sure he’s gonna be feeling it all through his body for a while, but he gave out as good as he got. He’s not gonna take that shit lying down ever again.
“You’re going to be safe in this house, Tommy.” His new social worker’s voice is gentle. Puffy’s not watching him- kind of can’t be, when she’s driving. “I can promise you that.”
Tommy doesn’t tell her that he doesn’t trust social workers anymore. He can’t trust that the newest foster parents won’t hurt him.
“I’ve placed quite a few kids here,” she continues. “I know it might be hard to believe right now, but the parents are good people, and they’re going to take really good care of you.”Series

Techno doesn't understand why he is here, neither does he know if this is a dream or not, which in its entirety, it probably is.
But the numbness of his fingertips feels so real, and he can hear the thumping of his heels too clearly.
He doesn't dream that often; when he does, he'd always be back in that recurring nightmare where his family abandons him just like they did the first time.
He isn't in that nightmare right now, else he'd see the faces of the family he had long before Phil and Tommy, and the walls would be blood-stained with rotting yellow wallpaper instead of pitch black.

Techno finds that it is as dark in his dreams as it is at home. Most days, he wonders if he could ever escape the darkness.

There stood a tall child and a short man, black of the ashes and red of trickling blood. But they were also his brother and father, black of the hushed night and red of pomegranate shrubs.
And Techno doesn't understand how they are his family. Because even though they feel like family, they certainly don't look like family.

Phil is an Elytrian and can fly. Tommy is an Avian and will eventually learn how to fly. Techno has no idea why he doesn't have wings and why he couldn't be like his family.

His mind was in a panic and he couldn't do anything but wait for it all to be over, he heard Tommy's voice screaming his name, someone lifted his head and put it on someone's lap... his hands were cold against Techno's skin.
His eyes managed to focus enough to know that it was Tommy who was there with him, he looked worried and scared.
He said something but Techno couldn't understand him, his mind was blurred and his vision slowly filled with black dots.The last thing he saw before succumbing to the darkness were his older brother's tearful eyes.

Techno looked over to his brother and smiled, as much as he hated this process of finding a new foster home he knew Tommy needed it. The kid was too young, far too young to have to worry about any of this.
It was Techno’s burden and he would die before the kid had to worry about him or their safety.

Wilbur opens the door, creaky hinges and all, and stops. Gilded in the moth light is a boy- young and old at the same time, a golden halo dirtied and worn. His eyes are familiar- a sight he had not seen in three years time.
Wilbur stares at his little brother, who stares right back. Then he shifts, taps a toe on the ground, and clears his throat.
“I didn’t.. I didn’t know where else to go.”

Three years ago Wilbur's foster brother ran away without a trace. Wilbur never quite got over it, but was forced to move on with his life, certain he'd never see him again- until Tommy reappears on his doorstep one fateful Tuesday. Healing ensues.
