Summary
Set in the years between acts 2 and 3 of Dragon Age II, Alice Hawke is at the height of her Champion of Kirkwall acclaim. She's renowned, she's wealthy, she spends much of her time either solving problems, causing problems, or wheeling her considerable fortune away on games of Wicked Grace, all with at least three or four of her friends beside her. She seems, on the outside, to have much going for her, but no one realizes how empty the halls of her mansion seem in the dead of night, and no one knows the gaping wound Fenris left in her chest when he walked out on her. So, Alice seeks fulfillment other ways, despite how detrimental they may turn out to be.
Enter one would-be Prince of Starkhaven, bringing his own mental turmoil to the table.

This work has a brutal depiction of Danarius and his treatment of his slaves. He is an evil man and will be written as such.

If Anders had to pinpoint the exact moment his better sense had abandoned him, he would trace it back to that day in Lowtown marketplace. Witnessing Fenris, an elf who had only ever shown himself to be acerbic at best and vitriolic at worst, practically melt a merchant with unexpected kindness and effortless charm? Well, it was eye-opening.
He didn’t dwell too much on the way that smooth voice made his stomach flip, nor the sudden heat he felt seeing that broad smile for the first time. He was mostly preoccupied with two immediate questions: 1) why had Fenris never treated him this way? And, 2) what would it take to achieve that outcome?

Which did surprisingly nothing to ruffle the seeker. No, Cassandra did not appear all that put out yet. If anything she seemed to have expected this protest, or as her slight judgemental frown indicated, she had more accurately expected this tantrum. "Guard Langlois is not a templar," she said with a nod to the young man.
"Ah, that makes it alright then," Anders rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "It's a detail and you know it."
A sigh. Cassandra visibly clenched her jaw, then spoke as though what she had to say next was scorching her tongue. "Varric advised it."

Summary
Fenris is wary of Anders. Anders is wary of wanting again. He can hear the song if he listens hard enough, but the melody is bittersweet, which is frankly normal for their lives. The Grey Warden eventually leaves Kirkwall when deadly secrets are discovered and the elf is the one dragging him out of there so they can both seek relics of their pasts. What they find spells a lot of trouble for everyone and Anders just wants to bury his head in the sand until it's all over. Why can't Amell fix this crap, or that elf girl that somehow got made into the figurehead of a religious origination by virtue of surviving explosions?
"Why do epics always make us sound amazing? We're embarrassingly bad at saving the world. Makes me wonder if Andraste was as dumb as us, like maybe she couldn't find her socks in the morning during war time."
Worst part is Varric will not stop writing about his sex life, and he keeps getting the details wrong. Unless you ask Fenris. He thinks the worse part is all the mages who won't leave him be. Justice thinks the worst part is how Anders keeps getting off track via kidnappings and following cats around.
Starts in DA2, continues in DAI. Warning of typical violence, sex and bad humor
