    Summary

King’s Landing was too hot. Hot, and loud, and reeking of rancid sea air and the rankness of too many bodies bustling in too tight a space. Jon hated it and he had hated it since the moment he saw the towers of the Red Keep and the city’s high walls from horseback in the procession that brought him to the capital. Jon tugged on the collar of his doublet, pulling it away from his neck to let what little breeze there was blow onto the sweaty skin there. Jon was not made for the South, he decided. He was a Snow, made for cold and ice. Not for thick sea air and the hot southern sun.

(Jon's lord father may be Hand of the King and his half-sister engaged to the prince but in King's Landing Jon Snow is nothing more than a bastard. Lonely and bored, Jon takes to walking the markets on the Street of Steel. Satin had come to King's Landing for a fresh start but finds himself living much the same as he had in Oldtown - wasting his days and working away his nights as a lowly whore in a brothel on the Street of Silk. By rights, they should never meet. By chance, they do. A story of friendship and love, desire and denial, push and pull, will and won't as two boys who were never supposed to fall in love do just that.)

"I am the queen of spades, I am the wasp that stings, I am the dark serpent. I am the invulnerable animal who passes through fire and is not burned." - Elena Ferrante, The Days of Abandonment

Rhaella thinks perhaps the gods, any gods, have heard her prayers, when Aerys vomits up blood in bed. (Aerys dies before the 'trial' of Rickard and Brandon Stark can commence. In King's Landing, Rhaella at last finds her footing. On Dragonstone, Elia makes her preparations. And in the Tower of Joy, Lyanna comes to a series of cold realizations).

Alone In The World by Narea -- Caught up to Ch.49 -- Good story about Jon getting Dragonstone and ends up in a marriage with Margaery, and has elements of Jon having memories of Daemon from the past. The way it's written is sometimes confusing, and some parts are very slow-burning; however, it still has good elements. Really like the elements in the story that have Jon trying to rebuild Dragonstone to its former glory.

    Summary

"All our silence could not excuse/Disappoint or further prove/Anything other than what we already know." - MS MR, 'All the Things Lost'.

“Who did you promise?” she asks him, tearful with alarm and terror.

He gives an odd sort of little half smile, then rasps, “Lyanna. I always kept my promises. She would have been so angry with me… otherwise. I had to help her. It was the only way.”

“What was the only way?” Catelyn feels cold sweat dripping down her back, feels slightly feverish herself. “What do you mean, Ned? Did Lyanna ask you to do something?”

“Keep him away… from Robert,” he whispers. “To protect him.”

(Mortally wounded during the Greyjoy Rebellion, a delirious Ned makes a deathbed confession to Catelyn, leaving her to pick up the pieces of both her life and Jon Snow's.)

    Summary

Storm’s End was nothing like what Edda had expected. She had expected a battered old castle on a cliff. Which it was, but Storm’s End was massive, more grim than magnificent, in a way similar to Winterfell. They said it had been constructed by Durran Godsgrief, who’d taken Elenei to wed, and faced the wrath of the gods by doing so. The children of the forest were said to have helped fortify the walls with magic, so that no storm might ever topple it.

And then some said Bran the Builder, who’d founded Edda’s house, had helped to construct the impenetrable fortress. She felt some sense of belonging, looking at it, so maybe the legends were true.

(In which Eddara Stark travels to Storm's End to spend time with her betrothed's family, and some things change, while others remain the same).

"The question is, are you but some opportunist, a wolf caught befriending the sheep? And I answer that I am confused and aloof, and yet arrogant for victory." - The Silent Comedy, 'Victory'.

In truth, it would be almost funny, if he were not so numb. He saves a city, kills a madman who happens to be his king, and gets caught fucking his sister, all in very short order. The noble hero is then forced to marry a cow of a girl as punishment for his crimes. It’s the sort of humorous tale mummers might sing about, or act out in a play to the roaring approval of the audience. Jaime would laugh, were he not the center of it.

    Summary

And Joffrey- his green eyes burning, face red and contorted with hate, he looked nothing like her gallant prince. It was if a monster had replaced him, taken over his body. He was spitting like a cat, his golden curls disheveled, and he reeked of cherry wine. It was a good smell, though, so intense it made Sansa’s mouth water. He smelled good. She wondered how he’d taste.

She touched his arm, but was confused by the pale grey fur that covered her hand like fuzz on a peach, or how long and wicked sharply her nails had become. But Sansa was hungry, now, and her teeth tore into the meat of his thigh. His blood burst inside her mouth like a ripe fruit, but it didn’t taste like cherries, and she retched and coughed on it, drooling and spitting out skin and fabric. He’d collapsed, now, screaming, and tried to worm away on his belly. Sansa snapped at him a second time, but without much force; her teeth tore at his sleeve, then ripped away.

(The direwolf and her pups are dead by the time the Starks discover them. But a darker magic is awakened, and something sharp of claw and long of tooth is waiting to emerge inside the children of Winterfell, all the same.)

    Summary

In the Banished world where all villains go after their demise/defeat, the story focuses on several noble houses of Wickedia and a complicated, multiparty war for the Throne that features shifting conflicts, alliances, and betrayals. Key houses include the Tremaines, who rule in the North; the Grimhildes, a wealthy family from the West who have married into the royal line; the Lacklands, who at the outset hold the Throne; and the Feys, who once controlled the Throne using dragons but who have been nearly wiped out by the time the story begins.

"And war is all you've ever seen/Your war behind the screen/And all it means to me." - Black Math, 'Lapse'.

Careful, she tells herself. They have not delighted over you as queen, either. Plain and thick and flat of body, when they could have had some great beauty like Princess Rhaena or a little dollish darling like Daenaera Velaryon. And that is why you need to be crowned. And why we must have some sort of progress. Something. Anything, to prove to the people their king is a miserable, sullen child no longer, that he is competent and can force a smile and raise a hand in recognition in public. Else this will be a long, hard life for you, whether he comes to like you or no

(Aegon III chooses plain faced Barba Bolton as his bride, who came south to beg aid for her starving people. Three years later, a royal progress is debated.)

    Summary

He didn’t even register that they’d been seen until someone had grabbed him on the shoulder and wrenched him away from Robb with so much force that he fell back entirely.
“Guards!” Lady Catelyn’s voice screamed and Theon’s eyes got wide in panic. He looked at Robb, then up at Lady Catelyn standing over him. He opened his mouth to protest, to say something, anything, but then her hand was coming down as fast as a whip as she slapped him with all the force she could.

    Summary

Ned Stark was surrounded by papers on his desk with Maester Luwin hovering over them when Theon pushed the door open. He looked swamped with numbers and little details to be sorted out before the King arrived. Ned Stark sighed when Theon came in and put his work to the side.

“M’lord?” Theon asked, the accent something he picked up from visiting Wintertown a few too many times. It did make Ned Stark quirk up a small smile though, so that was one benefit.

“Theon, we need to talk, Luwin, fetch my sons will you?” Ned gestured and Maester Luwin quickly ducked out of the room, closing the door behind him, and Theon took the seat in front of Lord Stark. “You have to tell me who claimed you, Theon.” Lord Stark said as he settled back into his chair.
