Bones pov
Starts at the end of third academy year, with the wings revelation from Bones’s pov, and then goes into the Narada attack and the aftermath. The Narada stuff happens very close to canon, but the aftermath is more of the focus.
Bones is immediately accepting of Jim’s wings, and is only concerned /for/ Jim. The most angst occurs because Jim has trouble accepting Bones’s good reaction even though he knows it’s genuine. The two grow even close now that the big secret that Jim was keeping is no longer between them. Jim ends up railroading Leonard into moving in with him and Chris. Chris is very amused by Jim’s antics and over time Leonard becomes almost another son to him.
Jim’s wings get revealed to everyone at the end of the fight with Nero and Jim can’t keep them a secret anymore, so the Enterprise bridge crew rally around him to help him cope with the media an bureaucratic fallout.
Lots of sweet domestic scenes between Jim, Leonard, Chris, and John. Chris and John finally get together romantically right before the Enterprise ships out again. Jim and Leonard are relieved/excited, but now they have to deal with them being gooey and in love lol. Jim randomly receives a call from Sam letting him know that he’s alive/apologizing for leaving him and that he has been wandering the galaxy doing odd jobs since he left. Jim passes the news to Wynona, and Jim and Wynona reconcile somewhat but still are closer to acquaintances than family. Fic ends with everyone getting the news that they’re assigned to the Enterprise with Jim as captain, and a date to ship out on.
