    As a gunman for hire, Cougar was paid to do a lot of things. Keep his head down, keep his guns clean, and never ask questions. It was one simple job, shoot the Russian, because he was supposed to kill a Russian for some reason, and it should have been easy. He shot the Russian, damn good shot if he did say so himself, but he hadn't planned on getting shot, finding his soul mate, or getting plunged head first into the garish scheme of things that the Chinese had planned for the rest of the world.

    Over eighty years have passed since the Disaster that ended civilization and covered the world in a permanent layer of snow and ice. Humanity survived, if only barely, and have since then managed to recover a little of what it lost, building settlements and rediscovering technology to help them in their struggle. Every settlement relies on technology for their survival and the Engineers are the ones tasked with maintaining and building it, but despite their importance the Engineers are a dying breed.

    Jake and his sister live under constant threat of being kidnapped or enslaved for the skills they possess, so he has learned to be wary of strangers — Raiders in particular, who murder and steal without remorse. But that changes when he meets a Raider he can't quite bring himself to hate. Cougar is different, and causes a myriad of conflicting emotions that Jake would rather not feel to being with.

    But when it turns out that Cougar might be able to lead Jake to the key to humanity's continued survival he decides to embark on the biggest adventure of his life, trust issues be damned. It soon becomes obvious that it won't be an easy journey, for more than one reason.

      Cougar cocked his head with a smirk because this wasn’t the first time someone had underestimated him because of his appearance.

      “I will allow you to apologize,” Cougar responded and Roque frowned.

      “What the fuck are you talking about?”

      “Apologize and I will make your defeat….less embarrassing,” Cougar replied and he could almost see Roque’s hackles rising.

      “You want an apology?” the big man sneered. “How about fuck you?”

      Cougar shrugged and took a step forward, then another until he was racing towards the other man and Roque braced himself for their impact as Cougar leapt at him but the man was braced for Cougar’s weight, not for the weight of the three hundred pound Dire wolf that slammed into him.

      Cougar snorted in amusement, leaping backwards as Roque went sailing from the wall, disbelief still clear on his face while he hung suspended in the air for a moment before gravity sent him plummeting to the floor.

Спустя год игр в кошки-мышки у них наконец появился шанс снова встретиться с ним лицом к лицу и восстановить свои честные имена. Или хотя бы отомстить. Однако Кугар внезапно исчезает среди ночи, толком никому ничего не объяснив. Все указывает на то, что он отправился на одиночную миссию, с которой не рассчитывает вернуться живым. Мучимый дурными предчувствиями, Дженсен бросается на поиски. Перед перспективой потерять Кугара меркнет даже жажда мести и желание вернуть свою прежнюю жизнь. Забыв о Максе, Дженсен готов преодолеть тысячи миль вслепую и сделать все, чтобы не дать Кугару погибнуть.
