That must be what finally makes Cloud fall apart.
There’s a lump forming in his throat at the mention of Aerith, and just the thought of Zack arguing with the Planet—of all life—to come see him again, makes his legs feel weak. He’s stronger than this, is supposed to be stronger than this, but Cloud can’t seem to hold back the sound of a sob coming up his lungs.

Summary
Cloud and Sephiroth were teenage sweethearts during Sephiroth's one-year stay in Nibelheim. But to save Cloud's life, Sephiroth was forced to leave both Nibelheim and Cloud and return to his role as a General. In the process he broke Cloud's heart.
A few years later they meet again when Shinra sends Sephiroth to inspect the malfunctioning reactor. Too bad Cloud isn't exactly interested.
But, will he eventually prevent Nibelheim from burning and save Sephiroth? And why is he sensing an otherworldly threat emanating from the reactor?
Will they EVER reconcile and get a chance to be happy together?

Vincent lifted up a hand- his human hand- and moved it towards Sephiroth. The boy flinched, though didn’t move away. The hand landed on the silver hair, lightly ruffling it. Sephiroth looked an awful lot like a deer caught in headlights when Vincent did it.
“It’s fine, I’m not upset, and you don’t have to call me sir.” Vincent said quietly. “We’re going to Nibelheim because there is an unoccupied Shinra manor there, it hasn’t been touched in years.””

The heir of Shinra Electric Power Company—Rufus Shinra.
He was the laughing stock of the bureaucrats. His name was the favorite piece of dirt people flung to the President whenever they talked behind his back. He was the reason for all the soulmate-related policies of Shinra that banned its employees from seeking out soulmates through company connections, much to the employees’ dismay.
Sometimes, he’d be found sleeping in an abandoned room on the 65th floor of the Shinra Tower. One time, he burned a highly valuable and confidential specimen on that same floor, kept it in an urn and stole it away from the labs. Most times, he’s found lazing around in his penthouse, locked in his room filled with computers and useless books. If not there, then he’d lavish his time in Wall Market of Sector 6. No one really knows what he does there, but knowing Wall Market, no one really needs to ask.
All of his assigned projects and budgets always end up wasted on the miserable Slums as if anything he’d do there would make Midgar a better place.
