Summary
Polites held back a sarcastic retort. He didn’t want to come off mean. “I can’t sleep.”
Odysseus looked appalled. “What? Why not? You’re always able to sleep!”
He rested his chin on his knees, trying to seem smaller. He felt like how he was when he and Odysseus first met; shy, scared, apprehensive. “I’ve just been struggling with it lately.”
It was odd, he’d have to agree. He’d always slept perfectly fine ever since he was just born. This was the first time he’d ever gotten less than ten hours of sleep. He hated this feeling. This feeling of emptiness, of only running on the smallest bit of energy. He couldn’t even put in the effort to perk up like he always did when Odysseus was here.
“You know, if you have trouble, you could always come by and sleep with me.” Odysseus offered.
OR; Polites got that insomnia and Ody offers to let him sleep with him (literally, you creeps.)

Summary
Polites kept a tight hold on Odysseus’ hand as he dragged him into the medic tent. He barely registered his protests.
“Polites, really! It’s not that bad, I’m fine.”
Odysseus’ limping and soft gasps of pain said otherwise.
OR; Polites works to heal a wound Odysseus received while fighting the Trojans (pre-Horse and the Infant, obviously)

Summary
“Wait wait wait waitwaitwaitwaitWAIT, you’re hungry right?!” Polites cried out.
The cyclops’ movements slowed, Polites dangling over a salivating mouth. “More than you could ever know” It growled mournfully. The soldier’s mind raced. He wanted to survive and to help the pained cyclops, and being eaten most certainly wouldn’t help. Surely there must be an alternate option?

Summary
Is a small shift in the universe enough to change fate, or is fate immutable? Is the path predestined and must we walk it no matter how it is walked? Or can we carve a new path borne of desire to change it all?
Polites walks away from the Cyclops cave. Eurylochus doesn't. Will it matter in the end? Will things have changed? Or does it even matter that the end is the end, that the fated path will force their way onto it, when maybe, somehow, there's still a little less suffering in the middle? Must a change be grandiose for it to matter, or do the small hours and little moments make the same journey a little easier to bear no matter where they end up? Does the love that's there change anything at all, no matter how small?

Polites didn't notice the club Polyphemus was swinging towards him.
Someone else did.
And all Hades broke lose. This is a recreation of EPIC the musical if Odysseus died to Polyphemus instead of Polites. Plus, some added in trauma for the other characters as well!
Oh- and Athena doesn't leave to get the milk. Instead, she gets to be sad! Like everyone else in the dang fic!-

Summary
The man had been fumbling in his bag, but he noticed Polites’ reaction. He looked at him curiously before a cocky smile made its way to his face. “Hi.” He sauntered over to the counter and leaned on it casually. “Can I have an….americano?” He grinned, showing off his sharp-ish canines. Polites lifted his head and cleared his throat, trying to be more professional. “Yep. Okay. Coming right up, sir.”
He turned to prepare the drink. He took deep breaths to try and calm himself down. It could be argued that the man wasn’t that attractive, but he couldn’t bring himself to think so. The gleam in his eyes was one thing, the well built thighs that still somehow shone through his pants was another.

Summary
The first time Polites notices a god in the trees, he's not quite sure that it's a god. It just looks like a nudist in a chlamys and helmet. In particular, it looks like a naked man watching his friend train in the field near the forest. Which is definitely suspicious. And he needs to tell Odysseus about that fact. But before he can open his mouth to signal Odysseus discreetly that something's off using their code, a white fluttering stops him.
Wings. The man has multiple sets of wings? Of fuck oh fuck oh fuck, it's a god! What does he want with Odysseus? Athena doesn't walk around nude, and she never takes a male form! I don't know him!
Or
The one in which Polites notices Hermes observing his great grandson and finally confronts him, just to learn it wasn't only the prince who caught his eyes after a while.
(This story spans from Polites and Odysseus being around age twelve until a little bit after the last song of the musical, with Odysseus and Polites in their late 40s to early 50s.)

Summary
Odysseus seemed to be everywhere: darting between the cyclops’ uncoordinated legs (had there been something in that wine? I swear, the single skin he’d given hadn’t been enough to leave such a large being so severely inebriated), catching a vulnerable crew mate by their collar to pull them out of range, feinting and stabbing and attacking and distracting. He didn’t explain his orders, but gave commands in brief, one or two word shouts, jerks of his chin and nods and flicks of his sword at the wrist. “Faster” and “further” and “back!” After ten years of fighting at his side, his intent was clear to us. He seemed every bit the (great) grandson of a god, the mentee of a second, the most recent in a line of clever kings and heroes, skilled enough to prove a proud heir even for his divine lineage.

Summary
“Odysseus,” I said, tilting his face carefully towards mine, “my friend, what’s wrong?”
He shook his head, eyes bright with panic. “Polites- I- no. I can’t.”
Gods, I loved the man, but could he not just cooperate for once?
Thankfully, patience has always been my virtue more than his, and besides that, I could never get mad at him when he was so clearly miserable (or in general, really; holding grudges isn’t my strength). I shook my head right back at him. “What can’t you do, my friend? I’m worried about you. You have to tell me something.” I could coax the story out of hints if need be, but not from nothing. With my hand, still resting on his cheek, I wiped ineffectually at a spot of dirt smeared across his face.
