Summary
He gathered all his remaining strength and lept out of the wreck and onto the sand. He immediately started running for his life. The sand was warm and soft under his bare feet, usually an enjoyable sensation, but it made it hard to keep his footing and therefore his speed.
"Hey! That one's running away!", he heard one of the men scream and he saw in the corner of his eye that the two closest to him started their pursuit. He picked up his pace even more, although he could feel his lungs protesting. They were already tormented through the amounts of seawater he had swallowed while almost drowning and were not happy about the heavy exercise.
"Hey! Stop!", one of his followers screamed but Zuko didn't even think about it.
He could feel them closing in but he was almost at the treeline. If he made it just a little bit further he would be safe.OR
After the Agni Kai, Ozai decides to send Zuko out to the ocean to die and make his way there as miserable as possible. To Zukos luck, the ship hits ground and the wreck gets washed up to Earth Kingdom shores, where a ship of the Southern Watertribe fleet finds the injured teen. Under his false name Lee, they offer to take him to the next port.

Summary
Zuko knew that joining the Avatar and his group would be hard. After all, he'd chased them around the world, found them in Ba Sing Se (on accident really), and ended up helping his sister almost end the existence of the Avatar itself. So...his chances really hadn't been that great in the first place. Honestly, why he'd thought it'd be easy, he really wasn't sure. Another bad idea to throw on the pile of Zuko's past. But hey, it wasn't all bad. He's...different now, at the very least. Now he just has to hope that means he's better too.

Summary
An alternate world where Iroh leads a coup against Ozai on the eclipse and wins the throne for Zuko. The southern water tribe hadn't sent men to fight in thirty years, instead protecting their home, laying traps, using guerilla tactics so the fire nation gave up fighting them.
Sokka and Katara found Aang, but being frozen in ice for a hundred years has ramifications and for almost four years the tribe focuses on healing the avatar.
Zuko is advised for continued peace to have an arranged marriage outside the fire nation. The best option is a the child of the chief of the southern tribe. Katara is in love with Aang and is heartbroken, but will do her duty for her people. Sokka finds a loophole that they can carefully and craftily exploit.
Aka they lie. They lie so hard and Sokka becomes the one betrothed to Fire Lord Zuko. He is sure there will be no consequences to the plan. Certainly not going to fall in love with the man he is lying to. At all. Nope indeedy, no love on the menu. Dang it.

Summary
Cold wind filled his aching lungs.
Ice left his lips on every shaky breath.
Zuko's heart drummed a panicked chorus in the frigid night. The air tore at his skin, digging it's icy claws into his face as he pushed his muscles to their limits. Blood thundered, pumping relentlessly in his veins. Each footstep felt like he was racing closer to his early grave, yet he could not stop. He could not refrain from this maddening pace or else death itself will catch him.

Zuko accidentally finds his way to an otherworldly realm where myths and ancient tales come to life in the form of wintery warriors that ride across a full moon sky carrying out a great and wild hunt. Unaware that he had stumbled into their world, he is caught by these large terrifying warriors and discovers the truth behind the old stories. Unexpectedly, while trying to find his way back to his own world, he falls in love with one particular warrior who saved him from a frozen death and claimed Zuko as his own.

Summary
Zuko can see a slip of paper half crumpled in the grip of one of his hands, making out the words, 'to-do,' scrawled in the wrinkled sheet. His jaw ticks, as he fights and fails not to think the word 'cute', and he does feel a pang of remorse at how quickly he's managed to torch the mood, but he isn't exactly known for his tact.
This is, in fact, pretty good for him.
But the mild tint of embarrassment on Sokka's face as his hand tightens against his bag strap manages to poke at Zuko enough to give a bit back. “Nice to meet you Sokka, I'll see you around.” He nudges his shoulder lightly into his as he goes to walk by.
It is quick and quiet, but even that bit gets Sokka to blink at him in surprise before a smile tugs at his lips once more. “Thanks. You too, uh...?”
“Zuko.” He calls back, over his shoulder as he starts down the path back in the direction of his home.
He doesn't see it, but he hears Sokka quietly say the name to himself, and the sound of his voice carefully repeating the sharp syllables has Zuko ducking his head to hide a smile.
Or: Zuko is the livestock dealer in Pelican town, where a new arrival turns his world upside down.

Zuko isn’t too keen on having to give his 5-year-old sister a crash course on why it’s not okay to set fluffy animals on fire, but someone has to do it, and for some unfathomable reason, Azula had come to him. He’s not going to botch this up.

Zuko sways. Of course something like this would happen as soon as he tries to take a break. The guard notices his hesitation and speaks again.
“We think the attacker might be Princess Azula, My Lord.”
