Summary
He'd hoped that if he had another chance with Katara he could take things slower.
But he didn't expect to wait three whole months to see her again.
And he certainly didn't expect her to be so vehemently eager, enough to lead him off and jump him in the middle of a party that he is technically hosting and probably should be at right this very moment.

Summary
He doesn’t trust them. He can tell the group wants him to trust them, but he’s not that stupid - even if he can’t stop himself from agreeing when Jet asks him to camp with them the next few nights. He doubts Jet would want his added fighting prowess if he knew Zuko was already injured or that the Fire Nation soldiers that have them so on edge are on the lookout for him. Or really anything else about him and his situation.
Still, Zuko can take care of himself. So what if he’s hungry and exhausted? He’ll just keep fighting through it, something as little as bodily needs can’t take him down.

Summary
In one world, Fire Lord Ozai crowns himself the Phoenix King. He planned to rise supreme from the ashes of all he burned.
Fire Lord Sozin was known as the Dragon of Caldera for his might and the execution of his own dragon for betrayal.
Fire Lord Azulon was known as the Dragon of the South for his act in eliminating the Southern Waterbenders, as well as the dragon he killed on the eve of his twentieth birthday.
Crown Prince Iroh was known as the Dragon of the West for (allegedly) killing the last dragon remaining in the entire Fire Nation.
There were no dragons remaining for Prince Ozai. That being said, Ozai was far more a dragon than any of his family.
The throne of the Fire Nation was known as the Dragon Throne because of the fierceness with which dragons protected their brood and the Fire Lord protected their citizens.
In this world, Ozai is a dragon. He is fierce, and sharp, and fire. Above all else, he will protect his family.

Summary
Zuko isn’t sent to capture the Avatar after his Agni Kai. Instead, his banishment is permanent. No exceptions. No opportunity to regain his honor. He’s unceremoniously dumped in the Earth Kingdom and left with nothing but a debilitating scar and an uncle who still claims he cares.
An assassination attempt quickly proves that his father isn’t satisfied with just exiling him. He and Iroh decide to hide out in the remote town of Gaoling, one of the few places overlooked by the Fire Nation due to its strategic unimportance.
Zuko’s pretty sure the Spirits hate him. Well, that’s fine. He hates them too.
--
In which Zuko gets a job in a tea shop, accidentally acquires some stolen swords, realizes his father was actually pretty horrible and meets a blind girl who’s too stubborn for her own good, not necessarily in that order.

Summary
The towering owl spirit craned its neck until its face was level with Zuko's. It tilted its head at an unerring angle as it spoke.
"However, what you have hidden in your belongings may be sufficient payment for your entry."
Zuko hugged his bag to his chest and fought back his rising panic. He wouldn't give up his egg for anything. But... what if this was his only chance at finding a solid lead for the Avatar?
Zuko's quest brings him to the Si Wong desert. He'll discover plenty about the Avatar, but not the one he's searching for.

Summary
The gang is adjusting to life in Ba Sing Se when an unsuspected discovery lands them in custody of a surprisingly well-mannered Zuko (though his temper is a nasty thing). Exiled, powerless, and with a ridiculously large bounty on his head, Zuko has to decide how he's going to let the rest of his life play out. Trust grows gradually through trial and error, through war and laughter, and maybe just maybe through a belonging Zuko never imagined he'd feel again.
"If I am lost, light my path.
If I falter, temper my spirit.
Let my flame burn steady, not wild.
Let my fire bring warmth, not destruction.
Let me walk in balance, with honor of my own making."

Summary
Zuko wasn't the type of person who made out with random men in clubs. Then again, he also wasn't the type of person who allowed his friends to dress him up in a ridiculous costume and parade him around downtown either.
Three hours ago, he never would've believed he'd be making out with a good looking, albeit inaccurately dressed, pirate.
It seemed tonight was full of firsts.

Summary
After convincing Wan Shi Tong to allow them to explore the Library, the Gaang stumbles into the Spirit's Librarian, who happens to be an awkward, scarred, very-passionate-about-knowledge teenager.
-OR-
After Zuko gets banished, he ends up in Wan Shi Tong's Library. Wan Shi Tong, respectfully, says "fuck it" and claims him - sorry, *adopts. Now, Zuko spends his days in the Library, indulging his inner theatre kid and learning about anything he can. Then, three years later, the Gaang drops in.

Summary
Crown Prince Zuko discovers his bending when he is five and his sister is three, and she’s the first person he tells, juggling a flame while she admires its beauty. When he shows the rest of his family, his mother’s chopsticks clatter to the table, and when Zuko looks to his father, his eyes are wide with shock.
His grandfather speaks first, the head of the table, and approval runs thick through his tone: “Well, look at that. A true prodigy, wouldn’t you agree, Ozai?”
“Indeed,” he hums.
//
(Princess Azula won’t summon her first flame—a guttering, timid thing—until she’s seven.)
//
Or, in a world where Zuko is the prodigy and Azula is the one banished, destiny shifts accordingly.

Summary
It's the heart of the hearth that makes the home. -So says the history of the Fire Nation.
Ground fires are known for being sneaky, insidious, and long-lasting, burning long after they're no longer considered a threat, spreading far and flaring up when they're least expected.
No one ever really does expect his Fire Prince. Jet has a lot to teach them.

Summary
“I asked around. There’s one Water Tribe prisoner here, and I’m pretty sure it’s your father.” Zuko flips his visor up, looking Sokka in the eyes as he continues. “But look, he’s been here for a while, Sokka. The Warden–”
“Where is he?” Sokka asks. “Where’s Dad?”---
This is a canon-divergent AU where Boiling Rock is worse. I took the Warden's "special prisoner" line and ran with it. I also wanted to explore what would have happened if Hakoda had been the one who'd been in Boiling Rock for a while rather than Suki, and what that might have changed.
Zuko is the type of person to go all-in when he commits to a goal, and that does not always go in his favor! Here we follow him, Sokka, and Hakoda through Boiling Rock and the aftermath.

Summary
Aang is born female. It doesn't change all that much, until it does. What twelve-year-old girl wouldn't instantly develop a crush on the masked dual-sword-wielding bad boy who busted her out of Avatar jail?
Zuko's dignity suffers.
A story in which Aang accidentally humanizes herself to Zuko far earlier than her canon counterpart by the simple virtue of being a girl with an awkward crush. Well, Aang is the one with the crush. The awkward part is mostly Zuko.
