“Just what I thought,” Greg said triumphantly. “You’ve just been pining for me!”
That was the last drop and Leon lost his patience. This was the single most frustrating exchange he’d ever had with an ex who refused to take no for an answer. So, to chase him away, he decided he’d need to take more drastic actions. He threw an arm around Piers’ shoulders, slotting against his side. “Hey, babe,” he greeted in a loud enough voice that he was certain Greg heard it too, “missed me already?”
At that Piers’ eyes started to widen in confusion, and to cover that up, Leon quickly crossed the gap between them and kissed him. There. Now Greg would see that he was dating someone else and would finally back off. Hopefully.
Even if he didn’t, well, kissing Piers had been on Leon’s to-do-list for ages now so it was a win in any case.

“I need to ask you a favor.” There was a regretful note to Chris’s words, no doubt because Leon had literally come back from debrief and crashed six hours earlier. “How fast can you get back to the DSO?”
“Twenty minutes if I pretend traffic laws don’t exist.” Leon was up and moving, putting the call on speaker and dropping the phone on his bed. Shaving would have to wait, but he needed to get dressed in something more than boxer-briefs and an old STRATCOM shirt. His go-bag was still by the door, so he only had to grab a few things… “You clear this with the brass?”
“Talked to Director Savage myself. Have to say, he’s a lot more personable than Simmons.” Chris with the understatement of the year, surrounded by humor that faded quickly. “Listen, the chopper that’s picking you up will have Piers on it–he’ll explain everything. Or, well, what we know so far. But the short version is, I need you to play bodyguard for a while. Could be a few days, or it might be longer than that. I’ll update you as soon as I can.”
Bodyguard, huh? That had the potential to be easier than his last mission was, or a whole fuck of a lot harder.
