Summary
When the group scrounging for unexploded nonperishables in the basement, they found something even more interesting.
Another android, another ZU-, slightly larger than the first. The blast had taken out a wall nearby, and it was laid out under the rubble, where fire must have melted the metal above it, because the plastoid of its casing was deeply scarred and pitted- almost melted away. Even its number was unrecognizable.
Sokka had joked then, that the blast must have been a real K-O, and Suki had plucked a shard of charcoal from the floor and written the letters across the melted side of its nameplate- ZU-KO.
They hadn't known, then, just how important that find would be.

It's not like Father has done anything to him he didn't deserve.

In the next few minutes Jet witnesses the tension in Zuko’s prone, shaking frame head towards a peak. It’s odd to see how his features go slack, the perennially sullen mask that Zuko’s had on ever since Jet met him finally falling away- not in relief but in surrender, like he can do nothing else but submit to the pain. Zuko's chest rises in jerky bursts, a shudder of starts and stops that’s frankly disturbing to watch.
Sokka reaches out to gently tousle the scruffy hair, but Zuko makes a sound that’s somewhere between a whimper and a grunt and shifts weakly to curl on his side, so Sokka lets his hand fall back instead.
It should be satisfying to watch an ashmaker suffer this much, but after all he's learnt tonight, what Jet feels is a lot less like vindication and a lot more like sympathy.

Summary
After Zuko's Agni Kai with Ozai and he learns of his banishment, Zuko flees the Fire Nation afraid, confused, and alone, leaving his uncle behind who has a chance to grow close to Azula. Zuko understands much sooner that his father never loved him and finds himself in an Earth Kingdoms forest surrounded by boys who want to free their kingdom from the Fire Nation. Zuko joins the Freedom Fighters claiming to be a nonbender from the Earth Kingdoms, growing in confidence in himself. When it is reveled that he is a firebenders, Jet is forced to understand not all members of the Fire Nation are war mongers and both boys are significantly less angsty when the Gaang shows up.

Zuko was born eerily quiet. He would not cry, he would not scream, his eyes remained closed constantly. The only clue that the baby was even alive was the shaky movement of his chest, rising and falling slowly with each shallow breath.
With no one else to turn to, Princess Ursa turns to an ancient legend, her last hope. She prays that her baby will get to see his first birthday, hopes that he will grow up strong and brave.
Who knows, perhaps the spirits are listening?

Phoenix Rising delves into the adventures of Avatar Ozai, Zuko and Azula, Sokka, Katara, Aang, and Toph as they work to help Ozai learn all four elements to defeat Ursa. This series a sort of omegaverse and as such, some of this e characters will be dominants, switches, or submissives.
This series will be almost like the canon, but with a twist and a shift in character roles. Ozai is the Avatar and grandson of Avatar Roku, Sokka and Katara are both waterbenders, Aang is a little more standoffish like Toph, and Toph is a little more empathetic than in the Canon universe.

There’s a moment of dead silence in which almost all eyes turn to stare at the left side of his face. Zuko keeps his mouth firmly closed.
It’s Toph who breaks the tension. “Yeah, not to call your nation out or anything, Sparky, but you literally just said that you have a massive, blinding, and deafening scar on the side of your face. As the crown prince, that seems a little hypocritical of them.” Toph snarks.
AKA: An innocent comment about scars leads to Zuko spilling his Tragic Backstory, and the chaos that follows that particular revelation.
