Because I have read the books and grown unreasonably attached to a bunch of randos who barely get any screentime and haven't been seen for six volumes. This might just be a bunch of one-shots or maybe I'll be able to motivate myself to give this an actual plotline...
Anyway, step right up and see what's been happening with The Beacon Brigade, a group of Shade students who haven't gotten much sleep since most of Atlas got dumped on their doorstep.
See, the great thing about writing characters who get next to no screentime is that nobody can tell you they're out of character! Rip Sage! This fic will be mostly about Teams CFVY and SSSN and also that one guy from the Vytal tournament who really should've figured out Nora's semblance quicker, otherwise known as Nolan Porfirio. The story begins pretty much right after the end of volume 8, but we'll probably get to Team RWBY's miraculous resurrection at some point.
We might get some more main character action eventually, but whatever, I'm the god of this spin-off universe.
I'm also a fickle god, so updates will be very erratic, sorry. Hopefully I'll be able to come up with some half-satisfying solution to all this. Enjoy! -

Our advanced technology allows us to pinpoint likely areas of tornadic activity, plot storm motion, watch those storms for rotation, and even track existing tornadoes on the ground -- but as James Spann once said: "If we just showed radar, for a lot of people, it looks like a bucket of spilled paint." He and many other meteorologists rely on one thing that technology can't replace:
Storm chasers.
Ruby Rose, a young woman with amazing instincts for chasing storms, teams up with her sister Yang and their friends Blake, Weiss, Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora, and Ren to not only add to the early warning network, but to film and study tornadoes and storms for their own goals. Working together with other chase teams, they strive to do what they love and return home alive at the end of the day.
But when the highly funded and highly militant Team ATLAS arrives in their chase area with some kind of new equipment, Ruby and her friends find themselves wrapped up in a race to save the reputation of one chaser, and the life of another.
