Summary
Kris broke their promise. They knew the hell they would unleash by refusing to open a dark fountain in Flower King, and still, they couldn’t bring themself to do it. They crawled through an open window into the school, and tossed themself into the abyss at the bottom of the supply closet.
What they didn’t count on was for Susie to follow them.
From the southernmost point in Castle Town, she saw it all—the Knight’s arrival, the fountains bursting from the dark. Even the cell phone Kris left behind, still whirling and shrieking its incoherent tones. Then, suddenly, it turned on, and a single contact appeared: Noelle.
In the crumbling remains of Castle Town, it’s up to Ralsei and Susie to save the prophecy, the darkeners, and in fact, the world as they know it. Armed with a fading connection to the chaos unfolding in the dark, Noelle faces the daunting task of recruiting the refugees of Castle Town for one final battle.
From the Card Kingdom to TV World, from the shelter to the school, the world is growing dark, darker, and darker still.

Unable to help themself (as much as they tried to curb any growing dependence), Kris stuck their finger between the bars of the cage to skim the Soul’s exterior. They felt the Soul’s diffidence, as if it was internally wondering, Are they mad at me?
“That wasn’t nice, what you did to Noelle and Berdly today,” Kris said, assuming a voice like their mother giving a lecture. “I know we went back and redid it, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, you know. That’s an hour in the cage, to think about what you’ve done.”
(Takes place after the events of Chapter 2, but Kris creating a Dark Fountain isn't acknowledged, since we don't know where that's going to go. Also, the Vessel will name themself Goner.)

Summary

At the same time, his children, taken from TV World still as infants and raised in Card Kingdom by Seam, have to learn how to navigate around his presence. Spamton hasn't been seen since the incidents that brought cyber citizens to Castle Town, presumed dead by most.

The soul was done with Kris’s shit; they had already been suspicious about all of the discrepancies in the TV world… but now it knew for sure that Kris was involved in things far beyond the soul's reach… it had never been the one in control… but it was done being played as the fiddle.
