Summary
It has been over a year since Dorian took up the mantle of Magister and left behind the life he had come to love so dearly in Ferelden. The fight that had ended his relationship with his amatus plagued him more often than he cared to admit, but the demands of his new station had proved a remarkable distraction. But with a desperate need for allies and desperately few available, Dorian makes a less-than-ideal decision to meet with a less-than-trustworthy fellow Magister in the hopes of securing an alliance. When he arrives at the location, he finds more than one surprise awaiting for him.

“Surely not!” Solas recoiled in shock. He knew for a fact that that epitaph had been struck from this age. He had made sure of it.
“You’re going to have to expand that for the rest of us non-elves here, Chuckles.” Varric seemed deeply interested in the interaction between the two, as if he was internally memorizing it for his next book.
“It is a title, willing sacrifice—” Solas started to explain, hoping that if the others saw this farce for what it was that the prisoner would go back on his jest.
“Is that not what I am?” Drynne cut him off, glowing hand gesturing to the Breach. “We march against the forces of the fade itself, hoping to close the Breach in the sky with a very likely chance I will die in the attempt.”
A fair point, Solas granted internally.

He closes his eyes. This isn’t how it was supposed to go—so often Dorian had lay awake at night, trying to sleep and letting his imagination console him. Cael, popping up on his doorstep, safe, I’m coming to stay. I hope you know that. He always accepted in the daydreams, treasured that farce. It made the distance between them easier to swallow. The years of time that have slowly wedged a rift between them.
Now Cael is standing here, almost a mirror to his imagination, and all Dorian has done is beat him down for showing up at all.

This one's a little more disjointed than previous with lots of memories and flashbacks to fill in backstory, so I included a date and location before every chapter.
