Summary
The hospital, like the city, is larger than anticipated. Steve had traveled to about every corner of the US by the age of thirteen, tried every fine wine over the price of several thousands by sixteen, followed his parents from the edge of Cancún to the center of Denmark in the summer by eighteen. And yet- he found himself staring openly at the building before him, feet planted firmly in the middle of the parking lot as if he’d never seen something so utterly huge, so daunting.
Twenty five stories, curved wide around him into what he could only describe as half an arena, towering, waiting for him to dare to come and fight for what was rightfully his- something he had never asked for in the first place. His life.
There’s cars coming and going- patients, families, doctors and nurses going home and some just starting their days paying no mind to him at all. Flowing around him like an everyday obstacle, like it was no surprise for some sick kid to be gazing upward in what might be awe, what might just be fear.

Steve’s groan of impending, self-inflicted doom is beautiful, it’s music to Eddie’s ears. And because he’s not a total asshole, Eddie tries valiantly not to wheeze hysterically at how badly Steve looks like he regrets his decision already.
“I regret this decision already.” Steve clarifies for him from behind the hand he has pinching the bridge of his nose. “Just for the record.”
“Duly recorded.” Eddie promises, deadly serious in an instant. Recorded duly as in; he’ll never forget this moment or the significance of what Steve is truly agreeing to here. “Oh, Harrington, I could kiss you.” And for some fucking reason, finds himself saying. “Actually, you wouldn’t be the first bassist I’ve kissed.”
a talent scout is in town and her sights are set on the hideout, corroded coffin are down a bassist, and Steve Harrington can't say no to Eddie Munson.

Usually i can't read incomplete fics that were last updated years ago, the premise was too good so i read this one and...
I balls to the walls love it. It's really really good. I love eddie's friends being fleshed out more. I love their dynamics. I love steve finding a new interest with bass. I love that we not only get one but TWO mutual pinings in this group (yes there's nothing mentioned yet on Jeff's end but I am 1000% sure it's mutual).
While I'm not sure if this will ever get updated (sadly), I would still love to revisit it because the ideas it presents are really good and I absolutely love the characters, all of them.
I stg, there's smth more to Chuck's story. I genuinely thought he was going to be a douche because of the premise but he's genuinely pretty great. His reason for not being available definitely is not about his grandma. BUT I also don't think it's entirely about a simple farewell to his gf at the airport like eddie is thinking. There is no way in hell that someone this loyal to his friends and passionate about music would leave them hanging at a really potential scouting. This is probably also why I'm so hooked on the story, the lowkey mystery.
And narrative-wise, Steve is finding a calling with the bass obviously. And he's the one who'll play at the scouting. So...partially if they do get scouted, it will also be because of Steve's bass playing and not Chuck's. I know their plan is for Steve to just be temporary and to be switched back to Chuck. BUT obviously a story wouldn't start with a character finding their passion in music and then just have them leave the spotlight. No no no, Steve is definitely joining Corroded Coffin once they leave Hawkins. And he's doing so as a fellow musician.
And that's why my theorist mind says that smth has to be up with Chuck for this to happen as Ramira only hires quartets so we can't have 2 bassists in the band as they'll be 5. Either that or they'll be able to impress Ramira enough to have her make an exception and sign them in as a band of 5 members instead of 4.
Point aside, I am absolutely sure that Gareth is going to end up really frustrated once he sees more steddie flirting amped up to a 100x once they get more comfortable with the group. He's gonna witness more of eddie being all "i don't think he likes me like that :/" after seeing Steve absolutely flirting with his best friend and being very happy with Eddie's flirting. Right now, in the hostile tense environment, Gareth already clocked on to steve looking back at eddie with "something". Imagine if he'd witness the thigh grab at the car. And moreso imagine how much more he'll notice once he gets to know Steve more.
I'll say it again, I really love how the corroded coffin members were written here. Only a few chapters in, and I already have a sense of their personalities and some of their quirks. Gareth is a spitfire with a short temper but mostly due to his protectiveness over his friends. Jeff is more soft-hearted. Water to Gareth's fire, he's more adaptable when it comes to sudden changes in a situation. He's also pretty chill. Chuck is a planning kind of dude (organized scales and notes for Steve) and absolutely loves and cherishes the bass. He's there for his friends when it counts (Gareth coming out to him). And he's not that observant (not yet clocking on to the Steddie pining).

also, you know a guy is a certified nerd if he gets to choose his name and he chooses "Gareth." it's not aggressively nerdy but the association is there :) I bet his nerd trans heart really loved being called Sir Gareth and I love that for him

The minutes dragged on, the tension building, someone was singing ABBA’s Mamma Mia, and then four people walked onto the stage, and the crowd exploded in cheers and whistles, and Steve thought he might have a heart attack, actually, because he knew these people – there was Robin Buckley who he’d briefly worked with in that godawful ice cream place a couple years ago, there was Jeff something something who Steve remembered stealing lunch money from in middle school, there was another guy who looked vaguely familiar but who Steve couldn’t place, and then there was Eddie fucking Munson.
Steve remembered Eddie. Remembered watching him and talking about him and laughing at him behind his back and other stuff, stuff he’d rather forget, stuff he was still trying to make up for, stuff he didn’t want the kids to find out about ever because if they did, they were sure to write him off, and Steve would deserve it, was the thing.
And then Eddie started playing his guitar and started singing and Steve’s mind went blank.***
Or: Steve chaperones six teenagers to a metal festival and things don't go quite as expected.-
