In this world, almost everybody is assigned a soulmate at birth. Everyone is given a specially made two-way journal at the age of 13 that documents what you and your partner are saying. The journals are indestructible and endless. Soulmates are able to communicate with one another through the journal, but are not allowed to reveal who they are. When you do find out your soulmate and decide to reject them, you physcially feel pain the longer you deny their love.
Nini was always excited to meet her other half, but she never would've thought her life partner would be the one person she could not stand the most, Ricky fucking Bowen.

Tim catches Lucy’s eyes in the mirror and grins, his gaze sheepish as he dabs at the cut under his eye. It’s deep and he probably should have gone to the hospital to get stitches, but he’d fought Grey so hard he’d feel stupid giving in now.
“What can I say? Getting hurt isn’t all that bad when I have such a cute nurse to treat my wounds.”
Lucy snorts and rolls her eyes as she walks into his space, reaching up to brush her thumb under the cut. It’s about an inch long and pretty deep, the skin around the wound swollen and already bruising.

Summary
Around ten years after High School, Carlos and Seb are getting married, leading to a reunion of the East High Theater Crew. Most notably, for the first time since High School, Ricky and Nini will both be single and in the same place. Knowing that Ricky is looking to settle down and Nini is looking for a change, Gina bets Ashlyn that Ricky and Nini will be together by the end of the wedding, despite them living on separate sides of the country.
Ashlyn thinks that no rational person would start a cross-country relationship with someone they have not seen in half a decade because you hooked up at a wedding. She has forgotten the fact that Ricky and Nini, while normal apart, are absolutely absurd when together.
