Renfri carefully took them in her hands that were only shaking a little bit now, smearing red onto green stems and yellow petals.Julian clambered into the bed beside her and crawled halfway onto her lap. “I got you flowers, ‘cause you’re so pretty like them!”
“These aren’t flowers, they’re weeds.” Renfri told him, rolling her eyes but allowing the contact with ease. Somedays it seemed like Julian was the only person in the entire castle who wasn’t afraid of her.
“They look like flowers.” He said, crinkling his nose.
“They’re dandelions,” Renfri informed her brother with a tiny smile, “They grow everywhere, even places they perhaps shouldn’t. That’s why they’re a weed.”
“Perhaps they’re a little like you,” She teased, “Growing in even the scariest of places with no fear.” Like a monster’s heart, she doesn’t say.
“Like a superpower!” Julian gasped.
Renfri separated one dandelion from the little clutch and reached out to tuck it behind a little ear. “For the stubborn hero, Jaskier.”

It's beautiful that this was written in the 70s, for those Trekkie women who watched the show and fell in love and wanted these men to fall in love too. So they wrote and dreamed for them and then shared that dream with others so they could scream and freak out and fangirl over it in their bedrooms late at night
and here I am, 50 years later and doing the exact same thing. Still kicking my feet and squealing into my pillow bc an old man was being cared for by his crushes.
Idk, just the feeling that this is all timeless and some day another person will sit in their bed late at night and squeal into their pillow over something I wrote too, maybe they'll even find this as well and it'll be a beautiful loving cycle

She was wrapped in fine gowns by girls who discreetly rubbed their palms together as they walked up a great many stairs to her chambers each morning so as to avoid her discomfort.
She smiled with a practiced ease and spoke cleanly and crisply from atop her gilded throne. She had all her teeth (and no new ones) which remained only as sharp as they’d been before (which wasn’t all that much).
Sometimes, she had him check. Had him count as she tipped her head back. Had him swear on his name as to whether anything looked any different. It hadn’t in all the times he’d checked but he never rolled his eyes at her request.
(AKA Ella Ashmore was only mostly dead...and of all people Tadius is, surprising nobody, pretty okay with that).

Spider is dead.
He can feel himself rejecting the notion. Spider (James- his brain supplies unhelpfully -he was James first) has always been so present; smarmy and cocksure and thoroughly untrustworthy. River had somehow pictured himself dealing with his irritating presence for the rest of his life.
The problem with knowing people, he thinks, is that it doesn’t matter who they become – you never really stop missing who they used to be.
His hatred of Spider has been wrapped up in mourning for years.
