Aziraphale could only nod.
“I asked if anyone has ever asked for death. Humans are so predictable, don’t you think? Of course nobody would ask for death.” Silence hung between the two for a long, agonizing moment. “Angels are predictable too.”
“Are you-” Aziraphale swallowed hard and cleared his throat. “Are you suggesting that if I don’t do this you will-”
“Kill you?” Metatron asked. “Erase your name from the book of life?” Silence once again. “No,” he answered shortly. “No, I couldn’t do that.”
