It's hard not to feel your inferiority when you're around Sylus. Not because of anything he does - he's the best partner you've ever had and you couldn't be happier to have him look at you the way he does. But because he has an image he upholds; powerful and lean and tall.
And you're not contributing to that in any way. In fact, you feel like you're detracting from it.
You feel it strongest when you're in his world. Not the half containing chases and gunfire and explosions, but the half that exists in silk and velvet and opulence. Auctions and galas and the one masquerade you still gush to him about despite it happening almost a year ago.
No matter how many tailored outfits he has custom ordered for you, you stick out like a sore thumb.

He finds a tiny kitten, one that can't be more than four or five weeks old. If this is a prank, you certainly went to great lengths for it. After studying it for a few moments, he taps his fingers about a foot in front of it, waiting patiently to see what it does. He doesn't want to scare it, worried that it's timid and he would end up spooking it.
The tiny thing mewls up at him and gets up on wobbly legs, toddling forward towards his hand until it stumbles and falls over, letting out another little cry. Taking pity on the poor creature, he moves his hand closer, holding it still to avoid overwhelming the kitten.

It was all over the news: Lemurian Washed Up On Beach, No Longer Extinct?
Footage from newscasters and phones flooded the internet. The breaking news was printed out and sold on every street corner, drawing the attention of people on their daily commute. Some thought it was an elaborate hoax; an animatronic or something, covered in silicone skin and scales.
Sylus knows it's real. He recognized the creature from a year ago, from his strange night fishing escapade. He couldn't find a good angle of their face, but those scales are recognizable. He can still feel the force of that tail against his ribs some days, especially after a hard workout.
He also knows the disgusting leech that rammed the van and stole it. The opportunist that called for a once-in-a-lifetime auction across every black market.
Sylus has no intention of allowing anyone else to buy them.

Business overseas took longer than expected, and life at home was too busy to bring you along with him. He didn't tell you he would be home tonight. You ignore him as you travel shelf by shelf in the royal library. An impossible task given his leather armor creaks and his weapons clink in their sheaths. Each step you take, shadowed by the heavy thud of a boot, completely destroying the quiet sanctity of the archive. You can tell it disturbs the other patrons. They side-eye and sigh and shift away, but they can’t say anything - you’re royalty, after all.
You stop at a shelf lined with thick, heavy-set books. Dragging a finger over gilded lettering pressed into the spines, you read the titles in search for one in particular. You stop on one especially large tome, bound in dyed leather and thicker than your forearm, and inch it out of its spot sandwiched between two others. Owing to its size, it’s quite heavy. You try not to show any ounce of struggle or exertion as you hold it in both arms.
“Shall I carry that for you, your highness?” You bristle at the sound of his voice. His hand appears in your peripheral, prepared to accept the burden.

He glances from Caleb to the group of students. Some girls look his way and lean into each other, giggling privately. He flushes under the attention, but relents with a sigh and a stiff nod. Caleb grins wide and boyish and claps him on the back.
