The first text message Lance ever got from Keith said are you home
No punctuation, no capital letters, nothing else. Just a question sans question mark, like he knew the answer already.
Probably because he did, if he’d been talking to the rest of the team, anyone at the Garrison, or any of Lance’s siblings. Lance hadn’t left home since he’d been released from the mandatory medical evaluation at the Garrison after the last solo mission that nearly killed him. It’d been nearly a year, and his feet hadn’t left the family farm’s soil since, which was exactly how Lance wanted it.

Stars gasp their dying breaths and ripe dust clouds give birth to whole planetary systems. Some light reaches them with its centuries-old fingers and some can’t weather the journey. So many beings shiver and die. Lance would be twenty now. He tries not to think about it.Keith can't bring himself to grieve when he knows Lance is still out there. Instead, he follows versions of him down holographic rabbit holes, trying to pry closure out of his memories, and losing himself to an obsession with the simulated landscapes where Lance was never lost.

Summary
Keith gets a blessed 30 seconds where the only sound is his sword slashing through shrubbery before Lance decides to start up again. "You know what I don't understand?" He asks, his words drenched in incredulity.
"The desire for peace and quiet." Keith vaults over what he assumes is the equivalent of a fallen tree on this planet.
Lance ignores his response. "Why you came back so small and fragile and weak."
"Clearly, because I'm not whoever you think I am."
Or: Altean Lance holds a grudge against Human Keith for what he did in another lifetime as a Galran. Every time they enter their lions together, the lions replay old memories. Keith finds out more and more who Lance was to him and what exactly Keith did to make Lance hate him.

As heir to the kingdom, Lance always thought he knew exactly what life had in store for him. That is, until a dragon kidnaps him at the age of sixteen. Suddenly his life is a lot less parties, lessons, and castles, and a hell of a lot more barren mountains, grumpy dragons, and boredom. From heir to prize, in just one night.
So now he’s stuck living in a cave with an adolescent, grumpy dragon who doesn’t seem to want him there but still won’t let him go. Not to mention his annoying habit of defeating every suitor who tries to come rescue Lance.
As much as he hates to admit it, he’s probably going to be here for a while. So he might as well settle in and get to know this dragon named Keith.
