Being transferred to the Lost and Found's data processing department was humiliating enough, but he realised Death must be having a laugh at his expense when he met his assigned training partner...
Or: Edwin and Charles become reluctant colleagues, escape their boring desk jobs to found a Detective Agency and stumble into a hell of a lot of trouble along the way…

Edwin's voice comes to him like a whisper on the breeze.
“Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.And fare thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.”He cries then, clinging to the branches of the tree outside Edwin's window, for their lost future, for everything that wasn't and would never be. When his tears finally run dry, he climbs down the tree and strips by the pond.
“You can't just use our pond whenever the fancy takes you,” Edwin says primly, playful indignation in his tone.
“Can't I?” Charles says, and dives in. The water is freezing, a chilling embrace.

Summary
Even Charles can appreciate the subtleties of the choreography: Fire is boisterous, with great, choppy gestures, Water is in a blue outfit and flows gracefully, Earth stays close to the ground, with sure, stompy movements. It's Air, though, that captivates Charles’s attention: the boy is tall and graceful and pale, and seems to float, his feet barely touching the ground, showcasing astonishing feats of skill and athleticism. He spins and jumps so high, it seems as if he has wings.

Summary
Rising from their woolen blanket spread over the forest floor, Edwin politely clasped his hands together. “I think I am going to turn in for the night, actually.”
Charles almost looked disappointed, though it was hard to pin anything down in the shifting lights of the fire. It was as though two different futures flickered over his face. In one, painted by the warm, orange glow softening Charles’ brow, and dipping into the inviting bow of his lips, Edwin saw a scene where he’d be allowed to pull Charles into bed with him. In another, cast by sharp shadows along his jaw, Edwin watched helplessly as Charles moved halfway across the world, and drifted further away every day.
“Right, I’m pretty tired myself. Won’t be far behind.” Charles said, and a selfish part of Edwin wanted to ask: but for how much longer?
Or, sometimes you just need a week long, post-university graduation camping trip to figure out the rest.

That had fucking hurt. “There’s no need to be pissy. I’ll go if you want me to.” He paused. “If that is what you really want.”
“Yes, it's what I want,” Merlin spat back. “Or do you want my knee in your balls again?”
“I want your face in my balls and you fucking want it there too, sweetheart,” Arthur replied.
There’s only one person who might put the heir of the Pendragon mob empire on his knees, so of course that’s the person Arthur Pendragon can’t seem to stay away from.
