“I have heard much of you, emperor Philza, and I have respect for you. Therefore, I’ll offer you a deal. You will surrender. You will kneel before me, right here, right now, and beg for mercy. Then I’ll take you to the Nether with me, and you’ll become my prisoner, slave, and personal servant. Or-”
The Blood God raised his netherite blade, pointing the tip straight at Philza’s heart.
“-I will allow you to die with a sword in your hand, and once you’re dead, I will slaughter your children.”
Philza fell to his knees without hesitation.

Philza had been prepared for a lot of things when he was taken as a war prize: the loss of his basic freedom, the heartbreak of being separated from his sons, the indignity of being reduced into the piglin king’s “pet”.
What he hadn’t been expecting was for the man behind the blood-stained mask to be soft-spoken, or good-natured, or tired from the weight of his crown.

"-this isn’t a super serious sparring match or anything.”
“Though we’re still going to take it seriously when we win,” Zedaph piped up.
Ren threw his arms around both Doc and Grian and pulled them closer. “You kidding me, man? Have you seen my team?” he teased. “We’re gonna destroy you!” Grian swore he even heard Doc growl on Ren’s other side. Friendly sparring match or not, the Hermits weren’t exactly the least competitive people in the world… and that just made it all the more fun.
“That’s the spirit!” Tango exclaimed. “You guys know the terms, right--when you die, you’re out, and the first team to lose all their players loses?” Grian nodded, and so did Ren and Doc. “Great! Grian is no stranger to pranks, and definitely not to ones that escalate to full out war. As far as he's concerned, the Mycelium Resistance is nothing but that. But his fellow Resistance member, Etho, sees a pattern. He sees the warning signs he wishes he'd been able to confront years ago- and this time, he's determined to not let it go unchallenged.

Doc finds himself in a nostalgic pursuit himself, hefting a freshly enchanted trident from one organic hand to a metallic one, feeling the comfortable, balanced weight. It’s been a good while since he’s had his former go-to weapon in hand— so, some target practice is in order. And, he notes, hearing the distant foreboding cries, it seems that he has some volunteers.
