Summary

That confirmed it, the kid really was Akutagawa. Kyouka tensed. Part of her, a part she was ashamed of, wanted to hurt him, to make him regret everything he ever did to her, to make him feel just as bad as she did. But she *was* ashamed of that part of herself. It would've been wrong no matter what angle she looked at it from when she thought it through logically. He was only a kid now, he didn't seem to have any recollection of who she nor Atsushi were. And besides, if she went through with this desire, if she stooped down to his level, wouldn’t that make her just as bad as he was?
Or - Kyouka and Atsushi find a fourteen year old Akutagawa, things happen from there.

At least, that was what Akutagawa thought until Dazai brought him in to join Atsushi on a mission to take down that very same criminal enterprise, confront his trauma, and reopen all those old wounds.

“I assume if I tell you that I actually do not know you will not let me go?” Akutgawa asked sarcastically and the man laughed.
“And yet, the boss says you do! Now hold still, or don’t. I don’t really care either way!”
Akutagwa didn't have the answers no matter how many times they asked. But the torture was never for him but rather for Atsushi, trapped behind glass and unable to do anything but watch. Akutagawa or the woman he was hired to protect, a life for a life.

It wasn’t easy to rattle Akutagawa, hell, Atsushi had seen the guy face much worse than a warehouse and come away with nothing more than a snarl and a black eye. And yet this was the thing that made him tremble, this was the thing that made him finally say Atsushi’s name in a voice that didn’t sound like it should have come from his mouth.
“Akutagawa,” Atsushi said slowly, turning toward where the footsteps were coming from, “Is this from your memory?”

Akutagawa was an independent worker. he had never chosen to work with a team, and he was very confidant that given the choice, the Armed Detective Agency wouldn't have worked with him either. They didn't have any sort of obligation to him, just like he had none to them. That didn't mean it doesn't sting when they ignore his injuries in favor of someone else's though, just because they were a bit worse.
OR
The five times Akutagawa's injuries were ignored because someone else's were worse, and the one time someone realized just how bad things were.

When Luffy, Chopper and Zoro get captured, they quickly find out that their attacker isn't only paid to "break" Strawhat Luffy, but takes a sick joy in it. Zoro has to pay the price. In the aftermath of brutality the swordsman and his captain have to find a way to manage their pain, guilt and shame. A first step would be to actually talk to each other, but you know what they say about first steps; They're always the hardest.
AKA Zoro get's beaten absolutely senseless and Chopper/Luffy are forced to watch.

Summary
The Shadowlands were the worst for so many reasons. The sun was gone, there was nothing to eat, and it was absolutely freezing. Astarion was used to the cold, with 200 years of vampirism under his belt. The lack of a normal circulatory system meant his body couldn't regulate temperature the same way living creatures did. A vampire could be frozen stiff in minutes before they’ve even noticed there was a problem. He could attest to that. And no additions of hats and scarves made a bit of difference - if there was no heat in the first place for the clothing to keep in.
It really was bitterly cold.
