He shook off the thoughts and knelt.
The coins were dropped in first, clattering against the slanted plates on top before falling into the box with a 'ti-tunk!'. Genos reached up to grasp the rope above the box to ring the bell, the tiny pale thing chiming sweetly and clearly in the quiet of the abandoned city. The sound echoed around him as he bowed, twice, and when it was as the 'chi-chiiime~' slipped away that Genos thought for a moment, synthetic brow furrowing, trying to piece together a simple prayer. Decided to focus on his current predicament, he brought his hands together to clap and closed his eyes.
'I pray for guidance.'
He bowed again, low, forehead brushing the wood of the offering box, and he allowed himself to center his thoughts before rising from his spot in front of the shrine.
"Hey, kid. You lost?"

Venomshank had always been wary of Illumina.
He had kept his distance from his brother for centuries, now. After all, he was far closer with Darkheart than he was with Illumina, and those two were always bickering and arguing.
What he did not predict was for Illumina to steal his son.
The deity had seen so, so many lives lost. He, too, had killed dozens of demons in his feral state. But there was nothing as undoing as watching his son, his beautiful son, slip away from him.
It ached in his chest every day when Sword would not come home to play video games or to train with Venomshank. The grief burned inside of Venomshank’s heart, which he thought had been long rotted, just like the zombies he reigned control over.
tl;dr - venomshank mourns the loss of sword into follower sword. sword comes home, but it doesn’t go as expected.
