“Do you ever feel like someone is missing? Like, a nebulous person. Someone who doesn’t exist.”
Impulse leans back on the balls of his feet and takes a bit to respond, probably mulling over Pearl’s question. “No,” he finally says, and Pearl’s heart sinks in her chest. “No, I don’t think so."

For the past seven years, Pearl has been longing, grieving, and mourning for a person that doesn't exist. She doesn't know who, or why, or how, but someone incredibly important has disappeared from her life, and she cannot remember their name, or anything else about them. She struggles through life - dropping out of college, feeling lonely even when she's surrounded by friends, and wondering just who exactly is missing from her life. Over time, Pearl learns to stop asking people about the feeling, and elects to push it down and ignore it.
That is, until she meets a man in a wheelchair named Scar, who has the exact same experience as her.

Gem could hear a voice, strange but calm. She could hear people outside the rubble, searching for life after the incident.
“I don’t sense any survivors. The team has checked every building.” A voice belonging to Phantom, the #1 hero.
“Have you checked the cave behind the portal, Phantom?” The voice said.
The only reason why Gem survived. The cave was well hidden. Hidden enough that the monster didn’t even notice her breathing or heartbeat.
Gem jumped when leaves were pushed aside and threw her dagger at the intruder on instinct, just barely missing. The dagger G gave her.
“Damn… you have good aim. I’m going to ask Kuna about giving you a spot in the Milita.” Phantom muttered, barely dodging the dagger. “Where’s your parents?”
”Dead.” Gem’s voice was hard. “I don’t want to join the Milita anyway. They failed to save the village.”
Phantom raised an eyebrow, “No family at all? Aunts? Uncles? Siblings?”
Something compelled Gem to answer honestly.
”My older brother.” Gem whispered. “Grian.”

Summary
Gem has never been lucky enough to enjoy an easy life. Joining hermitcraft changed that, the sever providing a place of comfort and safety, where she could practice her magic without fear of her past or the beings that had hunted her. Her half-brother Grian had introduced her, and the two of them were close together in their current world.
Gem had been starting to relax into this new realm until something new awakened on the server in Grian’s base and old memories begin to surface. Gem begins to remember events that no one else saw, and it seems like something evil is growing underneath Hermitcraft.
The final straw is when hermits begin to go missing again, and more then lives are at stake when old magic begins to surface.
Gem finds herself somewhere she shouldn't be, and she doesn't know if she can bring herself to do what is necessary for everyone else.

That’s right, villairy. Gem was a villain.
She had lost her moral compass somewhere cold and dark in the past 11 years and desired the world made right, she wanted the Government funded heroes association to remember they had a job outside of theifs. She wanted them to know that they couldn’t just save someone then leave them on the side of the road, she wanted to protect young children.
Because in the past eleven years Gem had learned that she was broken, that she had always been broken but others had torn her apart. She had seen her family die, but not once that night had she mourned her loved ones, she had mourned people she had known her whole life, but had never truly loved.
Because they had never taught her love.
Gemini Tay did not know love, but she knew others deserved it.
And others deserved punishment.

The vex grinned down at him, the expression just as sharp as it had been the evening before. He took a step away from Grian, raising his hands up in mock surrender as he looked almost on the verge of laughter.

Grian froze. Every single defence system he had ever created in his mind went up all at once, and he folded his arms in front of him as skills he'd spent years without using suddenly bubbled back up to the surface.
