Logically, they shouldn’t work.
Two footballers on the height of star-studded recognition, both in and outside of the pitch, flourishing through their own teams from different leagues, making or breaking records, winning and losing, training and training and training—all as they try to make time for family, and entertain fans, and keep up with journalists and their tricky words, and learn how to shut out the excessive noise from tireless critics. A footballer’s life is endless, just full of routines as anyone else’s, and it’s up to themselves to fall in love with the whole run or not.
The point is, they are supposed to be separate points, no longer in the cross of intersecting, no more excuses for them to meet halfway. Yes, they were teammates—but two years ago. They’re supposed to be history, a thing of the past, just fond memories to be thought of during slow, quiet nights.
Dortmund, Manchester, Madrid—but it is still Erling that Jude comes home to, and it is still Jude that Erling finds warmth in.

He gasped in a breath and tried to shake free of the dizzying disorientation as he pushed himself up on shaking arms. The world swooped violently and he fell back down, jarring his chin on the rough ground. He closed his eyes against the nauseating swaying before he threw up.
He swallowed harshly, forced the rising bile back down, and took slow, deep breaths. Just like Slade had shown him. He could practically hear the man’s voice in his head, as gruff and impatient as always.
Orientate yourself, Jason. Find a weapon. Get somewhere defensible. Kill anyone in your way. Recon.
He nodded along to the remembered instructions and forced himself to stand. He stumbled drunkenly for his first few steps but he wouldn't let anything stop him. Not ever again. Definitely not some stupid fucking dizziness.
He staggered across the rough grain of the rooftop he had landed on. New York’s skyline stared at him across the East River.
How the fuck had he ended up in Brooklyn?
Fuck.
He had to find Slade — he, at least, would know what to do.
