Jean Bart had been given no reason to believe today would turn out any different from the blurred red-and-gray feeling of the ones that had come before, but here he is: observing calmly as one of Sabaody’s dens of horrors descends into chaos. “He’s the one you think has haki, right? You were watching him in the fight enough to make a coordinated attack, he used me as a guinea pig and mouthed off to you. All within two days of knowing him.”
“What does that have to do with anything?”
Kid scoffed and rolled his eyes. “How many years have we been together, you think I don’t know my best friend’s type? You like someone that can keep you on your toes, that can keep things interesting.” He scowled, all teeth and show. “But did it haveta be some scrawny little nobody?”
Four times someone noticed Killer's growing feelings for Penguin and one time he did something about it. And then did something about it.

He has to say, he’s so exhausted and terrified that he thinks he might just be mad?
(OR: the one where, after most of humanity turns into a series of terrifying monsters, Mumbo decides he’s going to risk his life on an apocalypse road trip to try to find out if Grian is alive. Things, as you might imagine, devolve from there.)

Turning yourself into a cat and finding peace in a feline retirement from villainy wasn’t his plan, but he can’t say he regrets it.
