Summary
Suguru feels the midnight draft against his skin, hears the crowds of people below them thinning out into nothing. He hears them, always. People. Feels their sorrow bone-deep, their rage churning in his stomach. It’s hard to separate the two, nowadays. What belongs to him and what he’s allowed them to take.
Suguru suspects that Satoru isn’t really present at the moment. Not that he could blame him. Suguru hasn’t been present for months, now. He downs another glass of beer.

“Mmm, I knew you’d smell even better with your blood really pumping.” He has Suguru’s shoes in hand, each one hooked on a finger. He lifts them so Suguru can see. “Hey, you left these behind. Like Cinderella.”
Except Suguru’s feeling more like the haggard, run-down victim of a wolf and Satoru’s anything but a Prince Charming.
“I think you might actually be a little too into playing vampire,” Suguru spits between labored breaths, his heartbeat hammering like a rabbit’s.
“Playing?” Satoru’s grin bares bright, white teeth. He tosses the heels at Suguru’s feet and continues stalking forward. “C’mon, you still think I’m playing pretend? Suguru, I’m just playing with my food.”
While walking home after some Halloween partying in Shibuya, Suguru encounters a stranger who is also in costume—as a vampire—and bites off a little more than he can chew.

Gojo giggles. “You said husband,” he croons, voice sappily soft, and Yuuji blinks down at the stack of papers on the table in front of him and briefly contemplates regret.
A failing restaurant, endless desperation, and passionate love. Best served on the rocks.

Sometimes Yuki wonders if there’s something living inside his ears. Or head. (Some bugs can be too big, after all.) He’s old enough to know that can’t be the case, but there’s a ringing that never seems to go away, so he keeps the thought around anyway—by the wooden pillar, under the small jade vase.
Yuki doesn’t know if he prefers it to the quiet. They’re just about the same, he thinks. It’s still a little hard to breathe.
Maybe that's why he likes these. When Haru knocks his gentle knocks, and calls out his name just as much, it’s all he hears. Nothing laced with a strange something—just the low evenness in Haru’s voice, just Yuki’s pulse fluttering in his chest.

It's already late, later than he should be out on a weeknight, but the theme of the show was a super hero revue and there was no way he was gonna miss that. It's loud in the venue, which is the back space of what probably used to be a warehouse right near the Gowanus Canal, and Sam's already had a few. He's up at the bar during the break, watching the act. He doesn't hear someone say, "Behind!" so when he steps away from the bar, he smashes right into the guy who'd just done the Captain America routine up on stage, and knocks his drinks to the ground.

"You must be careful," Miguel insists for the third time today, "for Wizard Gojo is known to eat the hearts of young girls. I don't know if you'll be able to survive his wickedness."
"I'm not a young girl," Suguru points out. "And I don't think he'll be interested in me, anyway."
Indeed, as Wizard Gojo re-enters the room, his eyes meet Suguru's gaze, and his entire expression suddenly becomes pinched, like he's sucked on a lemon.
Suguru understands that not everyone he meets will like him - he's prickly, he's snarky, and all around caustic.
But there's no reason for that sort of blatant visceral reaction from Wizard Gojo. Maybe mother was right. Wizard Gojo is a detestable man.
Or
Suguru dislikes Wizard Gojo. The feeling appears to be mutual.

For all his mutters to the contrary, Fushiguro Megumi rarely followed through on punching Gojou Satoru. He’d smacked Gojou’s hand away from his popcorn, sure. He’d tripped him, a time or two, when he was teasing him about something or other, darting around like a persistent, smiling horsefly.
Gojou Satoru was the most irritating man alive. His smile set Megumi’s teeth on edge. He was flighty, incorrigible, and rude. He was late when you wanted him and constantly in your face when you didn’t.
Megumi rarely followed through on punching Gojou in his smug, useless face, even when he stranded him at a school with a missing cursed object and told him to come home when he’d found it and not before; even when he ate the last of the good protein bars and then left the empty box in the cabinet instead of replacing it.
Megumi rarely followed through on punching Gojou Satoru because he knew, if he did, Gojou would probably let him.

Where whenever he closes his eyes, he meets those of someone he shouldn’t even be thinking about. Where he barely sleeps more than three hours, because he’s haunted.
