Sonic blinks once in surprise, brain dialing in like a predator eyeing its chosen prey; and then a wicked, teasing grin stretches across his face, "Oh I see what's happening. Little girl got too excited and couldn't hold it in while her alphas talked huh?"
Rouge's eyes shoot open at that, and she tries to make a hushing noise at Sonic; who of course, completely ignored her.
"Don't worry, its okay," Sonic coos, leaning down to plant a soft kiss on top of Shadow's head, about the only visible part of the womans face, and drawing out yet another sweet little cry that had Sonic grinning toothily as he spoke; "But you better get your face out of there if you want a reward~"

Shadow has no idea what Valentine's day is, and since it's these two hedgehogs, absolutely nothing goes according to plan. Yet somehow, through the chaos of the night, the two grow just a little closer. Sonic decides that whether or not Shadow returns his feelings, he's going to be there for him, helping however he can. And maybe, just maybe, it'll lead to something better than either of them could have hoped for.
(This is a happier(ish) story and I promise a good ending <3)

Summary
“Why do they keep thinking up stories to link my name with yours?” is the darker hedgehog’s abrupt question as him and his furtive partner walk, hand in hand through the forest adjacent to Hedgehog Village.
The darkness of the late evening does a nice job of concealing how close they are to each other, how the blue hedgehog lazily leans his head against his counterpart’s shoulder as they stroll.
Sonic’s emerald eyes remain as bright as they always are, despite the unlit sky, as he turns to look at his partner in confusion.
“Who?” he asks.
“Our friends,” Shadow huffs, in dismay. He waves one arm, gesturing outwardly. “The whole village. Why does it seem like the neighbors are gossiping all day behind their doors?”
Sonic only gives a contemplative hum in response. Then, with a tiny click of his tongue, he turns back to the darker hedgehog with a coy smirk, clearly getting an idea.
“I think I might know a way to prove that what they say isn’t true…” the cobalt hedgehog offers, leisurely. “Here’s the gist: a practical list of do’s and dont’s for you.”
Sonic pokes, sportively, at his partner’s cheek, and Shadow raises an eye ridge, suspiciously, but opts to listen, curious.
