Max turned in the direction of the headstone as well. “Why would seeing someone’s name on there freak you out so much, Will. Jesus, I thought Vecna had you and I don’t have your music with me. I thought you were about to die, and I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, Byers, just tell me what's going on.”
Will just then found his mouth very dry and a lump set in his throat. Suddenly, all the words in his mouth died and he simply stared straight ahead.
“Will.” Max said softly after a few seconds. “Who’s grave is it?”
Will forced the lump down his throat as he answered her.
“It’s mine.”

It’s the kind of truck that belongs in a movie, shining in the early morning sun. There’s also someone leaning against it. Shirtless. That’s what gets the immediate attention of the girls.
Max gasps and nudges El, “Uh… wow.”
Lucas frowns, “Hey!”
“I didn’t say anything!” Max quips back, but she’s still gripping El’s arm as they both give the guy an eyeful.
“I’ll say something,” El buts in, grinning, “That guy is very hot.”
Will, a few steps behind them, mutters, “Here, here.”
Mike groans, “Not you too, Will.”
Will just smiles sheepishly but his voice is easy, “What? I can appreciate a good-looking guy."
OR, in the gap between High School ending and College starting Joyce books the party into a 2 week long farm stay. Mike expects a relaxing break but it quickly turns chaotic when the charming farm-hand takes a liking to Will, and old feelings, new tensions, and unexpected drama threaten to ruin the quiet countryside for everyone...

Carl's usual rebellious nature catches up with him when one day, he ventures outside of Alexandria, but meets Negan and some other saviors instead. And ends up becoming his "prisoner."
- “Alright,” Negan said, turning back to his men. “Let’s take our little guest with us.”
Simon yanked Carl to his feet. Carl grunted, jerking against his grip, but Simon was stronger, shoving him forward toward one of the trucks.
Carl’s mind raced. He wasn’t about to be dragged back to whatever outpost they were stationed at. He had to think of a way out. Fast. Then he spotted his gun, blending in with the dirt.
Negan turned, his sharp eyes scanning the ground until they landed on Carl’s discarded gun. He smirked, nodding toward it.
“Oh, and take that Beretta over there,” he said, his voice casual but firm. Then, pointing to Carl’s side, he added, “And his holster.”
Simon wasted no time. He yanked the Beretta off the ground, twirling it in his hand before giving an exaggerated whistle. “Damn, nice piece. Real nice.” He inspected it, running his fingers over the silencer. “Kid’s got some taste.”

Shane’s car wasn’t there. They’d left him behind.
OR: Carl gets separated from Lori and Shane while they're watching the bombing of Atlanta. He'll never find them again, but it's okay. He can survive just fine on his own. He finds someone else, anyhow, a little sister, and they're going to be okay. They're going to be safe.

Negan has taken too much of a liking to his friend's son. Rick's little boy should've been his son, it was unfair. They didn't deserve him. They didn't need him like Negan did.
Ie, Negan is the creepy friend of Carl's daddy and he's his gym teacher, and he has a debilitating obsession with the kid. Bad things happen. Carl also loves the psycho but Negan is awful.
Carl is like 14 here and Negan is probably in his late 40s/early 50s.

“What?” Will almost laughed. “No!”
Mike flopped his head down on the couch beside Will’s legs. “Whyyy?” His voice was muffled by the pillows. “Dustin did it, and he’s the funnest.”
Will considered this and concluded that it was stupid for Mike to attribute ‘funness’ to how willing you were to take off your shirt. He opened his mouth to say that. “You should take off your shirt.” It took him a second to register the words that had come out of his mouth, and another to realize that that was in fact not what he had planned to say.
Mike and Will get into a summer situationship. It's all fun and games at the start, but by the end they'll have to piece their broken friendship back together or lose each other for good.

Jonathan whips around in an instant and is crouching. With the slightest shake, Will comes back to his body and all of the pressure surrounding him goes away.
“What? What’s the matter.”
Something is different, his dreams follow a pattern. Everything seems fine and dandy for a short period of time, then he’s falling head first into a storm of flashes that he can barely make sense of. But whatever is happening now is different. “I want mom.”

“You look like shit.”
He forced his eyes open and shot up into a sitting position, well, as much as the handcuffs allowed him. There, at the end of his bed, the bright moon framing his head like a halo, stood Carl, in all his one eyed glory. Sure, he looked a little worse for wear, all sweaty and feverish and with bandages peaking out from under his shirt, but it was undeniably him. Negan swallowed and regretted that action immediately as another trickle of blood coated his throat. Still looking the kid up and down in absolute disbelief, as if he might combust in a big heap of smoke, he carefully exhaled a laugh. Right.
“They must’ve given me the good shit then. Great. Compliments to the doc.”

Will shook his head quickly, crossing the space between them in a quick jog.
“No,” he whimpered, and his arms hooked around Mike’s waist, face pressing into the crook of his shoulder. “No, Mike. I could never forget you. You won’t-?”
“No,” Mike hissed, dropping his chin down on top of Will’s head. He was starting to catch up to his height, after years of having to look up or down at each other. He tilted his head down, nose squished against Will’s hair. He squeezed his eyes shut, and Will’s arms around him tightened, hands clasped behind his back.
They’d call twice, the first month Will was gone, and then never again.
After four years without contact, Mike chances a visit to the Byers' on his way to college. It changes everything.
