Summary
In the year 2551, Lynn Walsh is a thermal management engineer on a Terran Accord cargo hauler with a love of chess, a bad leg, and a less than perfect partner in the ship’s Captain.
Gaelen Echeveria, Second Bloom, is a member of an invading race of shapeshifting imperialist aliens called the Affini. She takes after a dragon, and is looking for a human pet to spoil rotten and make into her princess.
When Lynn’s ship encounters the Affini, the two are fated to meet, and Lynn is thrust into a world beyond her imagination, full of wonder. In time she meets a kind, if predatory, older fox-like woman from another domesticated species, and the three are destined to entwine.

Marcille inhales sharply. “Falin—”
“But now, I don’t care. As much, anyway. I like this. I like wanting things and being honest about it. I like being strong and scary sometimes.” She digs her nails into the back of her own neck, relishing the sting. “I think I like it more than I like being liked.”
