Christos gets a lot of hospital staff at his diner. He's open twenty-four hours a day and only a couple of minutes' walk away, making it the perfect spot to spend a fifteen-minute break or get a hit of proper coffee. (Christos has been reliably informed that the coffee in the breakrooms is shit, and he prides himself on providing the good stuff)
Out of all the many doctors, nurses, and other staff who frequent his diner. He has a favourite. Dr Michael Robinavitch.
Dr Robby, that's what he told Christos to call him.

[He swallowed again, raising the phone to his ear, squeezing his eyes tight.
It only rang twice before his dad picked up. “Hey, kiddo.”
Even at fifty-four years old, Robby was still his kiddo. Robby choked on a sob. “Hey, abba.”
“Whoa, you okay?”
Robby swallowed, hating how a whimper slipped out. “No. No, I’m not okay. Can you come get me?” He honestly did not trust himself enough to drive at the moment. Not over the bridge and at least half an hour away, probably more with traffic.
“Yeah, of course. Where are you?” There was shuffling on the other end of the line.
Except Robby didn’t know how to answer. He was at the park, but he didn’t want to wait half an hour there for his dad to pick him up. He also wanted a shower and to change. To get the awful day off of him. But he also was afraid to walk home. Was afraid he’d do something dumb.
“Can you pick me up at my apartment? But—but stay on the line?” That would keep him accountable. He couldn’t let something happen to himself if his dad was listening.
“Yeah, kiddo. Half an hour.”]

Summary
Around six in the morning, Ellis expertly places a chest tube in a thirty-seven-year-old stabbing victim, and when Jack leans over to inspect it, he is staring straight into the jagged, bloody hole in Private Milton's ribcage. The lights in T2 flicker and Jack can hear the whip of heavy canvas walls as a brutal storm rips across the desert. Milton is the one Jack had no chance of putting back together but he still tried. Fifty-five minutes of rapid infusion and internal cardiac massage and then he had called it, Milton's flat, empty heart in his hand.
Jack doesn't flinch while looking into the abyss of flesh and bone but he does lie to Ellis. "Looks good. Monitor the output, grab me after CT or if he goes south."

Jack should have known better than to be surprised. Life had already thrown enough curveballs his way. And yet, when his long lost twin and a seven year-old niece he didn’t even know existed suddenly emerged from the shadows of his past, he was definitely thrown off balance.
However, a cat always lands on its feet. And this too, Jack would endure and survive. At least he had his husband, Robby, by his side, and Robby’s brother, John. Certainly, between the three of them, they would figure it out. They had done it before, they would do it again.
But if the road ahead of them promised to be long and arduous, it wouldn't be without its rewards either. Thanks fuck.
Pope ignored the barb. It wasn’t about him.
“Listen, I saw you once. Medical conference in San Diego. I… You were with that guy, tall, gangly, he… he looked nice. He looked like a guy who would have kids. Not… not like me.”
Jack huffed. “You don't know him. You don't even know me.”
Hearing it hurt him more than he wanted to admit.
“It's about Lena. It's not about us.” Pope reiterated. “She’s just a kid. She deserves a chance. She needs a family.”No real knowledge of Animal Kingdom or ER is necessary. Updates every week.

Jack and pope got separated at 7 years old because Smurf hated how Jack would always sneak into pope’s room to sleep in the same bed. 30 years later, and pope calls Jack (he saw him and Robby at a medical conference) and asks him to adopt Lena, his niece, when Smurf wants him to kill Catherine.
Jack’s conditions are initially no contact, but when Lena misses pope and runs away to find him, Jack realizes he has to keep pope in her life. So, his new conditions are that pope has to cut contact with the family, do no crime/drugs/etc and go to a psychiatrist.
Meanwhile Jack still believes, from people telling him all his life, that pope had abused him. But that all comes out when pope, because his terrible psychiatrist is messing up his med dosage, isn’t doing well, and Jack stops him from offing himself (and gets a dream of remembering).
And so they make plans for pope to move in the house, and they will help/support him with all that mental health stuff and such.

He asks Abbot to cover half his shift, and Abbot is happy to agree—surely half a day shift can't be nearly as chaotic as the usual night shift. Everything that happens later changes his perspective on plenty of things, from just how crazy the day shift can get, to where exactly he wants to stand with Robby.

Did Spock know? How could he not. How could he have not noticed the way his breath hitched when the Vulcan leaned in too close. How his pupils dilated every time their eyes met. How his heart beat quickened in his chest to the point it felt like anxiety was clawing up his insides.
Spock looked towards the door, then back at Jim, and Jim faked a smile. But something must have given way, maybe his smile didn’t quite meet his eyes. And Spock’s head tilted to the side by just a degree. Almost unnoticeable to anyone but Jim.
“You and I will always remain friends.” Spock said, and didn’t that just drive the nail home. Jim could feel the way it plunged into him, the breath leaving his lungs in one fatal swoop that left a hunger inside of him that he hadn’t experienced in almost 20 years. He swallowed thickly, the lump in his throat felt almost physical.

Typically for him, this very warm, gross, and gushy deed cannot go unpunished; he is a Demon after all. So he understandably develops Hanahaki Disease, which is his first time developing such a thing, so he needs to hide and get his previous self ready for such a dangerous, one-life world.
