Summary
“L, look at me. There you go. I need to make something clear to you. I don’t need your devotion, in fact, I don’t want it, especially if it's devotion I had to beat out of you. I don’t need your obedience, or any false promise you’ll try and offer me to get out of this. There’s only one thing I need from you. Do you know what that might be?”
He waited for L to answer, although he knew he wouldn’t. L’s head had grown slack beneath his grip, and Light knew he wouldn’t be conscious for much longer. He leaned in, so close that his breath, hot and wet from exertion, brushed across L’s ear, and whispered, “I want your fear.”

this was a genuine work of art! it was chilling in a way but it was also so sweet at times, but i’ll be thinking about for weeks to come
it’s unique in the sense that it explores such a different take on light and l, i’ve never read something that interprets their relationship in such a way and the way this story does it is so heartbreaking. definitely give this a read or two, i’ll soon be on my third read through!

Summary
Light was not forced to run after L. And the chase could have been fun.
All that travel. All the places he had never seen, all the old grandeur of cities and mesmerising nature, colourful, unusual to him, wild; the air had a taste of a new variety of spring water every time.
Light picks up the keycard, puts on his jacket and shoes, and unlocks the door.
“Is that all?” L asks evenly, typing in staccato.
And, some other time, it probably wouldn’t be.

For once, L runs, and Light follows. -

Summary
Hikaru shifted closer, one hand steadying himself on the futon beside Yoshiki. His voice dropped to a soft whisper, eyes wide and tender—so soft that it almost hurt to look at him. “I really love you, y’know,” he said. “As long as you love me back… as long as you only look at me… I’ll do anything for you.”
Yoshiki let out a shaky breath, their lips brushing together briefly. Horrified by what this creature was but aching with a desperate longing for Hikaru, he murmured, “Don’t say that.”
“But it’s true,” Hikaru insisted, his voice barely audible. “You’re the only thing that ever made me happy. Even before I was this… even when I was just a shadow drifting on a mountain. It’s always been you.”

As L watches, the man extracts a twittering phone from his pocket and pitches it calmly into the river below.
He's not sure what makes him speak. L’s never been one to make idle chit-chat with strangers. Still, he finds himself opening his mouth to call, “In denial?”The man half-turns at the sound of his voice. He has a sweet smile. “In the Sumida, actually,” he calls back cheerfully.
