Mortified and a little offended, Grian snapped, "What's so funny?"
"Nothing, nothing," Scar said, in a tone that implied there was absolutely something.
"I don't buy that for a second," Grian hissed. He reached up, missed the first time, and eventually managed to get his fists curled into the collar of Scar's shirt. It earned him another round of snickering. "Seriously, what kind of trouble's up your sleeves tonight? Are you just determined to make these next few minutes hell for me?"
"Oh? Little ole me?" Scar feigned innocence. "How could I possibly be bothering you, G? All I've done is get comfortable."
Further adding to the issue, he gave Grian's hips a teasing squeeze.

Summary
At the end of 3rd life, Grian and Scar go home. They do not kill each other. There is no ring of cactus, no fists, no blood, no apologies.
It takes a few months of Grian slowly getting sicker, of the world cracking apart like cheap paint, for Scar to realize this was a mistake. It’s okay, because he knows how to fix it. How to save them, for good this time.

Summary
“Stay still,” the stranger hisses, fighting to capture both of Mumbo's wrists in just one hand.
It takes a moment of struggle, of back-and-forth as both parties refuse to back down, but eventually the stranger manages to pin Mumbo’s arms between their bodies, and he is left defenceless. He can see the shimmer of a potion on the end of their gloved fingertip, and Mumbo shakes in horror as they swipe it behind his pointed ear. Drowsiness quickly begins to flood his system.
"See you when you wake up," they whisper mockingly.
The sight of Grian going limp at the other end of the alley is the last thing that Mumbo sees before the world fades to black.

Grian took nothing but his personal documents, stolen carefully from the leaders’ office, and the clothes on his back. Then, once he forked over nearly all of his cash and landed in America, he got rid of those too. If the Watchers found him anyway, then...
There is a tracking device attached to his person. There is something unsafe beneath his skin.
He needs to cut it out.

Summary
Grian doesn’t remember the last time he managed to get out of bed for something other than needing to use the bathroom.
It’s gross, probably, but he doesn’t remember the last time that he showered, or ate something, or stepped outside. Almost every second of his life recently has been spent staring at the same four, dark walls, under a too-hot pile of dirty blankets. Getting up takes too much energy. Shucking off a few blankets so that he isn’t sweating like a pig takes up too much energy. He feels empty, like a poorly carved marionette on limp strings, unable to do anything for himself.
Unable to do anything but lie there, pinned in place under the weight of his thoughts.

aka; grian is having a hard time. it's the same as it always is, and he doubts that this cycle of recovery and relapse will ever end, no matter the lengths he would go to get it to just stop.

“… What was that?” Gem stared at him like she had seen a ghost. Her jaw might as well have been touching the cobblestone and her eyes looked about to bulge out of her skull. She had turned about 5 shades whiter.
“Oh, it's Scar’s newest bit,” Grian answered casually. It was definitely nothing that warranted that sort of reaction, didn't even make top 5 of craziest things Scar had done. Maybe not even top 10. He flattened the shopping district overnight just a few weeks ago.
“His newest bit…” Gem shook her head, recomposing herself. “Can you please explain what exactly is the bit?” Before Grian could reply, she added: “From the very beginning, with as many details as possible. What is wrong with you two?”(or: Scar rehearses to get the best love confession)

Summary
"Grian, what are these?"
Weakness, he tries to rasp; it comes out garbled, so he sucks in a long, slow breath and tries again, lungs trembling with the effort. "Weak– weakness."
Scar drops the bottle like it's burned him. "You took three weakness potions?" he chokes out, and that seems to break whatever trance Xisuma, Pearl, and Tango have been in this entire time. They rush forward, eating the distance between them in rapid strides, until they're all crouched around Grian.
Grian shuts his eyes again, before remembering he isn't supposed to do that. He wants to say sorry. What he says instead, is: "It was– safer. Like this. For you."
It amounts to about the same thing.
Or, I finally buckle down and post the rough draft of hunger au, where I give Grian every mental illness known to man and also a few new ones. Please heed the tags.

In the middle of the Third Life game Grian designed for his friends, his nesting instincts flare up and tell him to bury himself in blankets for several days. Lucky for him, with his ally the only Red Life, he should be safe to ride it out in private.Unluckily and embarrassingly, Scar has no intention of leaving him to deal with it alone.

Summary
Somehow, in the chaos that is the apocalypse— former human beings rising from the dead and whatnot— Scar has managed to find his way into the Compound, a makeshift gated community of survivors from all around the world, led by a man they call Grian. By some grace of God (or, more accurately, his own silver tongue) Scar has quickly climbed his way up the ranks, and has found himself in the position of their leader’s right hand man.
The unfortunate thing, though, is that Scar’s pretty sure he doesn’t deserve it. Because Scar is still himself— clumsy, forgetful, reckless— but for some reason, Grian hasn’t sent him away yet, hasn’t replaced him with someone better, and a nagging voice in the back of Scar’s mind has one question: why?
Or: Scar gets injured, Grian fixes him up, and they finally talk about their feelings.

He’s certainly not the worst roommate candidate that Mumbo’s talked to, by any means. It’s just that, well, he looks so terribly miserable . But also like he’s trying not to look miserable. Smiling but definitely on the brink of tears. Mumbo’s lost the thread of their conversation to his own thoughts. Should he bring it up? Will that only make things worse?
He can’t think of anything else to say and so gently cuts Grian off. “Um, sorry to interrupt, but are you alright?”
Grian breathes, slow and measured but shaky, before putting on a much less convincing grin. “I’ve had a rough couple of weeks.”

Rotting away in an empty apartment wasn't the life Grian had wanted, but it was the one he'd resigned himself to. It seemed easier to hope he'd fade away than to face the giant monstrosity that was existence. Why did everything have to be scary? Where had he gone wrong? What had led him to this life of exhaustion and anxiety? It felt like it would never end, darkness and fear coiling around his neck like a noose, forever tightening until he'd finally snap.

So, the moment Cleo left, Grian locked his door, tugged the curtains closed of his every window, dug a two-by-one hole and climbed inside, picking his knees up to his chest and cradling them, resting his chin on top. It was a tight squeeze, especially with his wings out at full capacity behind him, but he couldn’t think of anything else to quieten the buzzing in his head.
The will to just fly away and never return, the guilt that came with it.
The want to help but the acknowledgement that if Grian was a lesser person his life would be so much easier.

Summary
It had almost been a year since he last woke up from his most recent hundred-year-nap, and yet, nothing really interesting has gone on. It was nice, of course, to see the progress of the little kingdom throughout the years. Each time he woke up, it was always a pleasant surprise to find that the scenery had changed yet again. But other than that, really nothing much.
He supposed it was kinda his fault for not expanding his horizons, so to speak. He hadn’t left this mountain for quite a while. All he really does nowadays is sleep, wake up, stare blankly ahead, sleep again, repeat.
