He's young, naive, eager to challenge the restrictions imposed by corporate cynicism, and has yet to gain the respect of his crew. Everything changes after a controls room tryst with a man whose name he doesn't know. It ought to be a cliché, but it changes everything.

Drool pools in Arthur’s mouth, trickling past his tongue and hitting the ground with a grotesque splat. Followed by another. And another. He’d be embarrassed if he weren’t so damn hungry. He eyeballs the ill-guarded sandwich and wonders if he could sneak close enough to pilfer it.
The young man raises his head and visibly jolts at the sight of the big dog mere steps away from him.
Now, it’s Arthur’s turn to jolt in surprise. Because he knows this face.
It’s Merlin Emrys.
OR: As punishment for being an absolute tosser, Arthur is turned into a dog.

“And chivalrous—"
“I bet he beats his servants,” Arthur insisted, with no proof or reason. “And his dogs.”
“And handsome—”
“Handsome?!” Arthur shouted, so loud that it boomed in Merlin’s ears. He jerked his head up in surprise. Dark spots of red had bloomed across Arthur’s cheeks, flush and furious. “He is not! He’s—shut up, Merlin!”

But there’s always a catch with magical folk, and if Merlin can’t make Arthur fall in love with him and consummate their union within a week, Merlin will die in Arthur’s place.
