Ashley and Leon have escaped the island, but they're still a long way from civilization and Leon's comm is busted. In the end, it takes a full day and dozens of miles of travel before they're truly on their way back to the States. During that time they've both become incredibly sick, especially Leon, and it turns out that everyone's overlooked a very crucial step in the plaga purging process...
Technically a prequel to the next mainline fic in my series, but can be read totally independently!

I had a thought that was originally just a funny idea: what if Leon quickly got back together with the girl who dumped him right before RE2, and he's been quietly married this entire time with practically no one knowing about it? But the more I thought about it, the more it became both a sweet and angsty lifelong love story in my head... which resulted in this fic, the first in a series.
This part takes place directly after RE2, when Leon finally receives the medical attention he desperately needed, like, yesterday. WHUMP AND H/C AHEAD!
ODD chapters are Leon/OC, and EVEN chapters are the same material except it's Leon/Female Reader - choose your own adventure!

The obvious answer was 'no'. In all the time Leon had been working as an agent, never once had he heard of a rescue mission for a missing colleague. If an agent failed their mission it usually meant one of two things, either they'd been lucky and were dead, or if not – well, they might have ended up in a situation like he just had. Which usually meant they would be dead in five to ten business days. Either way they were not coming back. His only hope at this point would be that he could find a way out by himself.
