Summary
This will be an ongoing project of mine laying out an elseworld where the events following Season 4 of Stranger Things plays out just a little bit differently. Some events may stay the same, some may resemble what we've seen, but most will stray from canon events.
This is a snapshot of the head canon Ive been thinking of in the weeks after Stranger Things 5.

Summary
The Party goes to college and are finding their own paths, but Mike and Will still write each other across the miles, unable to sever that special bond. It all comes to a head when Will gets his first boyfriend, and Mike just can't be normal about it.
So he does the first mature thing he's ever done in his life and goes to campus therapy where his therapist has an interesting suggestion...
One truly exceptional fuck up later, it's time to face reality; for Mike and Will, 'best friends' was never a long term solution.

Summary
It’s been seven years since Will Byers vanished from Hawkins for the second time; seven years since he picked up his life, moved across the globe, and finally settled. He had found himself in a small town outside of Dublin with no desire to be anyplace else. He was happy. Ireland was great — beautiful sights, decent weather, and it was far. So, so far.
But when past feelings bubble from under the surface and start to poison his creative endeavors, he doesn’t think things could get any worse.
Seeing Mike Wheeler at his local grocery store quickly proves him wrong.

Nancy turned, the shock freezing her features into something horrifying. "He doesn't have a pulse."
Will held up his hands as he shook his head. "I know. But it—he—will be fine. You'll see."
Nancy choked on a sob. "He's dead! How is he going to be okay?"
Or: Four years after graduation, they're back in the Abyss, where a failing fight leads to Mike being bitten and losing everything about himself, except his love for Will Byers.

But it wasn’t a monster that came out of the trees. It was a person. A boy.
Mike froze.
Then he was spotted, and the boy stopped in his tracks; with skillful movements, he quickly slung the rifle off his shoulder and pointed it at Mike’s chest. Mike raised his hands while trying to keep most of his weight on his left leg.
“Whoa. Hey,” Mike said, his eyes wide as he stared at the tip of the rifle. “Just hold on. I’m not—I’m not going to hurt you.”

Summary
Both of their bodies shake as they catch their breath. Will’s still hard, and his sweat is starting to dry uncomfortably on his skin, but all he can focus on is Mike.
It’s times like these he’s reminded how lucky he is to have Mike in this way. To see this side of him, this side that still feels too new and too intimate and too overwhelming all at once. Sometimes, he thinks he might be bitter. Resentful of his lot in life, being so painfully in love with someone who will so obviously never feel the same way. On his bad days, he even thinks he might resent Mike.
Like this, though, he knows that could never be true. Not really. Sure, it hurts, only ever having Mike halfway, knowing his body but never his soul. Yes, it’s going to kill him when Mike inevitably finds someone new and runs off into the sunset, leaving him in the dust again.
But it’s Mike. He'll take whatever he can get.
When he and Mike end up in bed together after graduation, they fall into something dangerously easy. Or, at least, it would be easy, if it weren’t the most painful thing Will’s ever done.

“No!” Mike exclaimed, “Holly, I’m not marrying him!”
“Why?” Holly whined, as Mike tried to walk away. She threw both arms around his legs and sank to the floor, sitting on his feet so that it was extremely difficult to walk.
“Because,” said Mike, trying to free himself from her grip by shaking his legs. She only held on tighter.
“But he’s so amazing,” said Holly, as Mike shuffled his feet slowly when he realised she would not be relinquishing her hold on him anytime soon. He dragged her into the hallway so he could put on his coat. “He’s the best, most incrediblest, most fantastic babysitter in the whole world! You should marry him!”
Or; Will Byers, well-known as an outcasted freak at Hawkins High, is Holly Wheeler’s babysitter, and perhaps the loveliest person Mike has ever met.

Will frowned, “I hope it’s not,” he said, “I don’t like anybody we know enough to marry them — except our friends, obviously, but that’s different.”
Hugo, if it was even possible, looked somehow immensely more excited by these words, “I can’t tell you who it is,” he giggled, “That’s a really big spoiler.”
Mike Wheeler’s son arrives in Hawkins with no explanation, snapped back in time entirely by accident — and he latches on to none other than Will Byers. If only they all knew why.

Summary

Summary
What would happen if Will Byers was never found during the events of Stranger Things season 1? How would he survive the upside down? How would the people of Hawkins react?
Will breathed in a ragged breath. Black smoke poured from his mouth as he tore himself free from the wall. He collapsed forward, coughing and gasping on the cold, moist floor.
His heart pounded in his ears as he shakily scrambled to his feet. Eyes darting around the abyss, he started to run. And he ran, and ran, and ran.
His feet pounded on the ground when suddenly he found himself on a familiar path. Finally, something familiar. Will sprinted through the woods, as a feeling of hope filtered its way through the panic. He was getting there, he was gonna be safe, it was finally within reach.
Castle Byers.
The pain in his chest and legs screamed at him to rest, but he couldn't risk stopping. He pushed himself further, calves aching with each step. Suddenly, a loud screech echoed through the air from somewhere up ahead.

Summary
“What the fuck do you want, Mike?” He snapped. Will might as well have whipped him with a belt. Mike jolted with shock, a stunned expression writing across his face.
“What-what do you mean?”
“I mean, what are you doing here? Why the fuck are you in New York? What could have possibly possessed you to come here?” Will spat with venom. He knew he wasn’t being fair, but it was uncontrollable. The hurt expression on Mike’s face was making him even more aggravated. If anyone had the right to feel hurt, it was Will.
After Will left for school, he gave Mike distance to grieve. He figured that whenever Mike felt like bridging that gap again, he would reach out.
He hadn’t attempted it once in the past two years.

Will Byers is forced to work with Mike Wheeler on his senior capstone project. Just when everything had started to calm down in his life, Mike decided to show up again for the first time in two years. Will is devoted to his long-term boyfriend, Carlton, but can't help the magnetic pull Mike seems to have on him, no matter how hard he fights it.

Summary
There was a buzzing sound, and a beep, before the same words sounded again:
“—all me back. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.”
Another buzz, then again: “—still here… anyway, call me back. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.”
Joyce realised with a terrible lurch to her heart that Will hadn’t called Mike. He wasn’t finally speaking to him again—it was a cassette tape. A cassette tape of Mike’s voice, a recording from what must’ve been the end of a missed phone call, and he was replaying Mike’s last sentence over and over. I miss hearing your voice. I miss you.
When Joyce first saw Mike at five years old—a sweet, caring little thing, jumping to Will’s aid without a second thought—she’d never thought it would end up like this.

With Vecna still missing, Max still in a coma, and the town sealed under lockdown, the party prepares for a final fight. As Will begins to understand the truth of his connection to the Upside Down, Mike is forced to confront a truth of his own. Friends don’t lie, but some truths are harder to tell than others.
