Summary

Her cheeks were flushed with exertion, the tie for her hair long gone so it spilt in a waterfall of damp waves over her chest. Even through the darkness, he could see that her leathers were as pristine as when they left. Impressive but unsurprising, he thought. A good assassin made killing look easy. Teia made it look like dancing— gliding close enough for the target to feel her breath, her heat, the perfect point of her smile before she sliced down to the bone.
It was a spectacle he was more than a little angry about missing.
Teia relaxed against the opposite wall and lifted her hair from her shoulders. Raindrops glistened like pearls on her neck, trailing silver into her open collar. His eyes froze on the freshly exposed skin, more specifically, the spiderweb of black veins blooming from a cut there.
"I sent Jacobus to collect the—" her words died as Viago slammed his hands either side of her head. He pressed the flat of his tongue to her throat, tasted the sweat, the cinnamon sweetness of her perfume, then— there it was— poison.
She stiffened against his chest as he sucked.

Summary
Illario enjoys exploring sex with Bellara, and that's absolutely all that's happening here. She finds a scene in at an orgy and wants to experience it, Illario is totally fine with helping out.
The system works for them, a give and take that is more enjoyable than he expected, even if he has to wait for her to finish visiting with Lucanis or Rook before she comes to see him. He knows exactly where he stands with her - too guileless and straight-forward to attempt any of the mind games he's used to from partners. It's refreshing in a way, or at least it should be, but the easiness of her smiles grates on him. He's never been one to leave well enough alone, to not ask for a little bit more no matter how many times he learns that lesson.

The fire was too close; its heat seeped through the thin fabric of my slippers from the terracotta floor. “I’m capable of spotting interest as well as any Crow—or the lack of it. I’m not trying to seduce you.”
He looked me directly in the eyes, and my training called for an instinctive loosening of the shoulders as I banished the memory of searing flesh.
“Really?” he asked, his voice cold and unwavering as his scowl formed a crease over the bridge of his nose. “Because I’m capable of the same. And I can tell when people are afraid of me.”
A high-ranking stranger is all that stands between a young Rook and a plot for them to die carrying out a contract in Minrathous. Fortunately, the master assassin seems to owe Viago a favour.
Unfortunately for Lucanis Dellamorte, legendary mage-killer, the mage he's promised to keep alive has some secrets of their own.

More darkspawn showed up. It happened fast then. A bite to her leg. One tackle to the ground. She reached for the lightning flask on her hip, but it was knocked out of her hand. Darkspawn blood from that bleeding arm in her eyes and mouth. It tasted like hatred. She screamed.
She was dead.
Only a deep growl and a screech. The thudding of bodies falling and cry of victory. The teeth and claws stopped rending her flesh. The darkspawn dead or scattered. Strong arms lifting her in the air. She started to shake. Her lungs burned. She couldn’t feel her hands or feet.
“I’ve got you. Hang on.”

Lucanis faced him fully and Emmrich could almost feel the point of his stare needling at such thoughts. “Relationships die too.”
Emmrich laughed again. It was a warm thing amongst the flowers. “I can hardly say I’ve spent my mortal years as a recluse or a saint. Those are memories I’ll cherish for centuries.” He cherished them now, every stumble when he was young and then less young, every passionate affair that felt like months swirling in wine and fire. He knew the difference between love and lust, of having someone’s name between your lips or your teeth. Sometimes he’d think on them and feel the vigour of that younger man, someone ready to take risks, dive in and damn the consequences. Then he’d catch himself staring back in the mirror, prim, handsome, distinguished even, but time had taken its fair share. He’d prefer if it did not take any more.
“If someone you truly cared about did not want you to change, would it deter you?” Lucanis asked.
Emmrich felt the weight of the question hang in the air. “Well, if a lover told you not to take your Grandmother’s title, would you listen?”
