Summary
Kelpies were killers. They lived in the water, drowned anyone who came too close. Ate them, most of the time. It was reflex not choice, like the kick that follows a hammer hitting a knee, because kelpies were no more aware than a wave or a wildfire.
Hydra knew about kelpies. It was why they'd come up with their brilliant plan to capture one and turn it into an assassin. But like so many plans that seemed good on paper it came with unintended consequences—in Hydra's case, the unintended consequences were Bucky and no more Hydra.
Steve didn't know that. Even as a sometime Shield consultant, he had no way of knowing any of that. Which meant when the sleek black horse surged up out of the water and didn't kill him, the only answer he could give to, "Why?" was, "I don't know."

Summary
The cell was a sinister parody of a cheesy roadside motel. An enormous heart-shaped bed draped in red satin sheets took up half the room. There was a small mountain of pillows heaped by the headboard, a little wicker basket of supplies Steve didn’t want to think about, and an honest-to-God sprinkling of rose petals across the bedspread. It would have been funny if not for the ceiling camera positioned above the bed, guarded by a panel of probably-unbreakable glass.
The guards shoved Steve, Rogers, and Cap inside the room and backed out. The door closed behind them with the dull thud of reinforced steel and concrete. “You boys have fun!” one of the guards shouted, to a chorus of jeers and snickers.
“Wow,” Steve deadpanned, eyeing the whole travesty of a honeymoon suite before them. He didn’t know where to start. “This is...thorough.”
“I’ll say.” Rogers rummaged through the basket of supplies. “There are five different kinds of lube in here.”
(A team of AIM scientists reach into alternate universes to kidnap alpha, beta, and omega versions of Steve Rogers, hoping that together they’ll breed the next generation of supersoldiers. The Steves do not cooperate. Hijinks ensue.)

“Goddammit, Buck.” Steve groaned and propped himself up on one elbow, twisting his neck to look at the seat of his pants. “I landed right on the pizza. There’s pepperoni stuck to my ass.”
“Looks good on you.” Barnes waggled his eyebrows. “I’ll lick it off if you want.”
Steve fumbled through the wreckage of the table for a handful of napkins and threw them at Barnes’ face. “Buy me dinner first, jackass. Another dinner, since you ruined this one.”
“You’re the one who sat on it.”
“You tickled me!”
“It’s combat training, Steve.” Barnes stretched his arms out and folded his hands behind his head, ignoring the napkins fluttering over his neck. “I’m doing this for your own good, you know. You’re Captain America. Gotta keep those reflexes sharp.”
“Oh, is that how it is?” Steve rolled over Barnes, then flipped them both over so they were lying on the carpet instead of the splintered remains of the table. “Fine. Just remember, you started this.”
“Bring it,” Barnes said, before stretching up for a kiss.

He made it to the kitchen and pulled a carton of orange juice out of the fridge, got the cap off, and almost wore it instead when Bucky Fucking Barnes smacked him upside the back of the head.
“Use a glass, the rest of us gotta drink that,” Barnes complained, sliding a tumbler across the counter at him. “I don’t want your germs.”
Sam looked Barnes in the eye, raised the OJ, and took a healthy swig.

Summary
A year after the Winter Soldier failed his mission in DC, Bucky Barnes is doing his best to stay under the radar from both Hydra and Steve Rogers. His hope for a peaceful day-to-day life in limbo goes awry, however, when he meets Queens’ newest hero; a pure-hearted kid with a death wish and a ridiculous pair of red and blue pajamas.
The last thing Steve expects when he finally tracks Bucky down is that, not only has the man been living in Queens all this time, right under his nose, but also that, in the two years since they last saw each other, Bucky somehow acquired a kid.
Alternatively: How Peter Parker effectively fucks over Bucky Barnes, and also totally saves him.
