Utahime’s life is pretty good. She has a job she loves (teaching music to high school students), hobbies to keep her busy (baseball and skincare), and a best friend she adores (Shoko Ieiri, an ER doctor at the local hospital). She’s never felt the need to have romantic relationships, seeing them as a waste of time and energy. But life could never be completely good, especially when Satoru Gojo is her classmate-turned-colleague and irritating, too-handsome-for-his-own-good friend-with-benefits, with whom she’s been having hate sex on and off for over a decade. Utahime likes their noncommittal relationship, only able to stand being in his presence for as long as it takes for them to satisfy their needs. So it becomes even more irritating when Satoru begins to hang around more often, trying to wheedle his way into her life. And Utahime wants none of it.

The silence stretches. Normally, he would have already said something stupid, and she would have already snapped at him. It is strange for Gojo to be so quiet. She does not understand what his problem is, but for the first time in a long time, she is a little frightened of him.
