Summary

Summary
Camelot is a far-off dream, a place which was made for men. They travel through the forest, hunting.
Merlin lays with the deer and they with him, and he cannot bear their suffering the way he once cared about the suffering of men, so he splinters arrows before they pierce flesh and leaves the rotting bodies of unlucky creatures on the hot stones that circle the men’s fires.
If they cannot be taught their place in the forest, then they will leave it at least unsettled.
Men fear decay and death.
Merlin fears neither anymore.
(Arthur banishes Merlin from Camelot, so Merlin goes to the forest and slowly loses himself to its magic. By the time Arthur learns what he's lost, it's too late to bring Merlin back by his own will.)

Merlin’s skin is still cool to the touch, colder now, from the rain. Arthur swallows and wishes he had something to lay over him. The maids covered him in a blanket last year during the snow. Before that, the flakes piled up in the corners of his eye and the top edge of his tilted lips.
“He’ll be but three-and-twenty when we’re just about to die,” Gwaine says, looking down at his friend.
“He’ll be three-and-twenty for the next thousand years,” Arthur sighs.
He stands and smooths the wrinkles out of his tunic and trousers.
“We’ll be back for you, Merlin. Sleep well,” he says.

Merlin blinked sluggishly, only belatedly managing to tilt his head to face Arthur. Not that it did him much good; the features of Arthur’s face only appeared to him fuzzy at best.
“Wasn’t,” he slurred in response to the question. “Was saving you. Ungrateful prat.”
Arthur stared, and Merlin hoped he stared back.
“Why?” Arthur demanded at last, with a fragility in his tone, that he had clearly desperately wanted to hide behind the droplets of spit that met the skin on Merlin’s face at the sheer force of the word.
Merlin scoffed. “It’s not the first time, Arthur. Difference is there’s no saving me this time.”

Merlin jumps in front of Mordred's sword. He spends his last day with Arthur.

Summary
Arthur's hands had not always been kind to him. Arthur was a knight, and much to Merlin's dismay that meant that the rough treatment was the closest thing to a hug he was ever going to get. Flying goblets, punches on the arm, overly hard pats on the back and rough hair tousling, nothing was new to Merlin. It had become familiar, almost welcome, the only kind of physical contact he was ever going to get out of Arthur. He did not like it, but he cherished it all the same.
That is to say Merlin was no stranger to a little unnecessarily violent contact. Yet feeling those warm, callused hands around his neck, squeezing so mercilessly it was as if he could feel all the years worth of blood they had already spilled.
Or
Arthur discovers that Merlin has magic. He does not take it well.

Summary
Everything in their life was so much better.
Camelot was safe, magic wasn’t banned anymore. The happiest people from this repeal of the ban were Morgana and Merlin, they didn’t have to hide themselves anymore. With Uther’s death, Arthur had decided to repeal the ban and since then they were trying to make Camelot better together. Merlin was court sorcerer now; he wasn’t a servant anymore. He loved being more important in the castle, but also, he missed seeing Arthur every minute. Because he was busier, they weren’t spending much time together anymore. It wasn’t doing any good to Merlin’s heart, but at least they were all safe. He didn’t have to try to save Arthur’s life all the time, his king was safe from all the evil beings now. But, why was he feeling like something was wrong, then?
In other words, Arthur is hurting and Merlin doesn't know what to do.
