Summary
The Las Vegas race weekend is a disaster from the start, leaving Lando feeling uneasy, for good reason. When Lando has a big crash early in the race, the Red Bull team minimizes the impact when telling Max about it. When Max finally catches on to the more serious nature of the crash, nothing and nobody can stand in his way of getting to Lando, even if that involves throwing a temper tantrum and storming the McLaren motorhome. His antics risk outing them to their bosses.

Summary
"They have a few code words at McLaren. Not because there are things they aren’t allowed to say over the radio, but because the radio is public. The code words are there to alert the pit wall or the driver to sensitive emergencies or embarrassing situations like this. Lando has never had to use one before, but Will still insisted he memorized them and quizzes him on them occasionally."
Lando finds himself in a desperate and embarrassing situation during the safety car laps in Imola. He has always been able to say in interviews that he has never pissed in the car but that is about to change. Lando struggles to cope with the humiliation and Max helps. Max also threatens people with violence and blackmail, because he is Max and he can't help himself when it comes to Lando.

"Not good, not good at all. Lando, Oscar, and Charles are returning from the podium and heading straight to the media pit, before the press conference today, apparently. Fuck, Russel is also there giving interviews. Before Max can react, someone is grabbing his arm and dragging him away. The only reason he doesn’t take a swing is because the hand is as familiar as his own. He would knock out anyone else that touched him right now. His skin is crawling and feels too small for his body, like he is swollen with anger and his skin is wrapped around the fire, trying to keep it from busting out, but it’s melting and soon it will all escape. If he opened his mouth right now, lava might pour out. But Lando is shoving him against a wall in an abandoned hallway and slamming his mouth against Max’s, pressing their bodies together."
Max and Lando try to navigate the fallout from Max's bad decisions during the Spanish Grand Prix. Lando is desperate to do anything he can to help calm Max down and keep him from losing his head to his anger. Max starts to realize that he needs to make some changes if he doesn't want to keep making the same mistakes.

Lando is having a tough time at the start of his first home race weekend. Max just wants to help, but so early on in their relationship, he is nervous that he doesn't know how to show someone the type of love and comfort he has never had.

The kind of thing that will probably pop into Lando’s mind when he is trying to sleep for the rest of his life. "Lando doesn’t know where he is going, he is just walking, walking away from his car, leaving it on the track. His helmet is heavy on his head, but nothing in the world could get him to take it off right now. It is not nearly as heavy as the thoughts swarming in his mind. No one needs to see how that plays out on his face."

There are unexpected moments in everyone's life when they are reminded just how fragile they are, how quickly they could lose everything, no matter how young and strong they are. The universe seems to think Max and Lando need to be taught this lesson. Both of them find themselves fearing for their lives and health within a week of each other, surrounding the British Grand Prix. They support each other when they need it most and the fragility of life gives them to courage to say things that need to be said to someone that does not want to hear them, consequences be damned.

Lando feels incredible after making a life long dream come true by winning his home race. Max is determined to make sure nothing going on around him spoils his excitement. It works until the night comes to an end and the disappointed words from Lando's own team haunt him but Max is there to remind Lando how amazing he really is.
"All season, every time something has gone wrong, Lando has stood up and taken the blame and still given the team credit when things go well. He tears himself down over and over again, trying fruitlessly to fix an entire team by fixing himself, when he was never broken in the first place. Lando is so hesitant to criticize McLaren. Max's crash in Silverstone changed his and Lando's lives forever. As time passes, new issues develop as Max's concussion fails to heal and is diagnosed as a traumatic brain injury. The crash didn't only put Max's health and racing career at risk, it also imploded his relationship with his father. Now that Jos knows Lando and Max are together, he is becoming increasingly more hostile towards Lando as he is losing his connection with his son.
