When Buggy is eleven, Rouge-san kidnaps him for his birthday. She sneaks onto the ship in the middle of the night and runs off before the crew wakes up, Buggy and Shanks under each arm. She jumps from the ship into her small boat moored below, the wind making her blond hair dance and her eyes sparkling with joy. Rouge-san laughs and Shanks laughs so Buggy laughs.
Rouge-san takes them to the amusement park, buys them cotton candy that's taller than them, and flirts with the ride operators to let them in even though they're not the required height.
At the end of the day, Buggy leaves with a whale plush toy that reminds him of Laboon and three cavities. His ribs hurt from laughing too much and a peaceful euphoria takes over him, making him yawn from exhaustion.
“Thanks,” Buggy mumbles.
“Anything for you.”
And Buggy lives another year.

When Buggy is thirty-eight, his life slips out of his hands like a catastrophic snowball. He’s appointed Warlord and the most dangerous pirates worship him as a God. But worst of all, Shanks takes their three-minute interaction at Marineford as an invitation to visit him.
“Get the hell out of here,” Buggy orders the minute he sees Shanks.
“Hi Buggy, missed you too,” Shanks grins like an idiot.
Behind him, Cabaji and Mohji send away all his minions who are ecstatic about Buggy-sama's charisma. He’ll give them a promotion.
Shanks and Buggy stand face to face a few feet apart, Buggy crosses his arms in front of him defensively. Shanks' face is bathed in sunlight while Buggy remains in the shadows of the marquee. The irony is not lost on him.
“What are you doing here?” Buggy asks bitterly.
Shanks says nothing and joins Buggy in the shadows to hug him.

Rouge collects new family members like Pokemon cards. Shanks gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss the Celestial Dragons. Buggy has a lot of knives and is not afraid to use them. Ace is wanted under three different aliases for pyromania. Sabo makes governments collapse like houses of cards. Luffy frees entire countries if you give him food.

A mysterious signal is drawing ships across the Grand Line to a place called Elegia for the first ever concert by the rising star singer, Uta. Following the signal are Cross Guild and fallen emperor Shanks, the Charlotte family, the Donquixote Pirates and the shattered remnants of Law's crew, and Kid's crew, and Cavendish and Bartolomeo.
And the Straw Hats and their captain Luffy, who hasn't seen Uta since they were both little children at their idol Shanks' knee.
Perhaps this meeting was ordained by fate. Perhaps, in the end, there was only ever one tragic outcome possible.
But Luffy has other plans.
This is a ground-up rewrite of and fix-it for One Piece Film Red. It is a large-scale, ensemble-cast story that is not focused specifically on romance but has many established relationships that are implicit elements and will be tagged as they appear in the fic.
