Summary
Clark Kent is working for a better life when coming across a baffling idea. Really, it couldn’t be, could it? Only it would make so much, and no sense at all at the same time. Batman could not be Bruce Wayne, but then why does his heart beat just the same when confronted with either of them? Why do his emotions spiral out of control in their presence?
Bruce Wayne is just barely surviving, really, when an entirely too-clumsy journalist comes crashing into his life, dragging him into his good-hearted chaos. His heart warms up, and he can see life past battling his evils. He’s like a vampire turned back human, able to see the light again after a very long time.

Bruce paused, looked at him strangely for a moment and tugged at his collar, pulled it up a little further on his throat, “Well, rushing out the door didn’t present much of an opportunity to cover it up much,” He gestured at Clark’s chest, “It wouldn’t be too much to ask if you could keep it out of the circuit?”
“I’m not on shift,” Clark said, looking down at the Press pass hanging about his own neck, “Just here with a friend. Besides, I don’t think I could keep it out of all the papers, sorry.”
Bruce nodded, not really seeming all that disappointed to hear it. Instead, he smiled, all perfect white teeth and empty eyes that were more tired than the last time Clark had seen them, “If you’re not here for business, can I interest you in some pleasure?”
Or: Bruce and Clark discuss art. Clark can't help but feel it's about something more than that.

Clark's cheeks were warm but he pushed forward regardless, “What, um, what do you make of him? He's been working in Gotham for about a year now, right?”
“I wouldn't know. I've never met him,” Bruce shrugged, “And I don't think I'd like to.”
“How come?”
“He's violent. I can't say he hasn't been of some benefit - anyone can see that he’s exposed quite a lot of Gotham's underbelly, pointed out the flaws. But running around in a bat costume can hardly be regarded as the actions of a sane and well-adjusted man,” He said, a faint tug at one corner of his lips, a huff of derision in his tone, “Wouldn’t you agree?”
Clark and Bruce have lunch. Their not-quite-a-friendship seems to bloom.

"Kent, Lane, I want you two to follow up on that link between Luthorcorp and Gotham's underworld supply chains, see if you can get anything substantial."
Clark looks up at Lois with a grin. The air in the bullpen is electrocuted.

Clark takes in her earnest expression, then Bruce’s cooler but no less sincere one. They’re serious. An enormous weight lifts off him and Clark almost laughs. He feels warm again for the first time since Lois said goodbye. He won’t be alone anymore. “I think I’d like that— to try,” Clark says shyly. Bruce smiles and Diana laughs, relieved. He is happy."

Batman drew back, finally turning to look at him with coal dark eyes, the whites of them bright against the paint framing them. The cut along his cheek and jaw was gone, nothing more than the faint impression of a silvery line at the microscopic level, a five o’clock shadow smudging it out. Clark’s gaze alighted on the new texture of the undersuit, cuts of matte carbon fibre, faint traces of sea salt caught in the weave. A patchwork of night and shadow and the fog that lingered in the spaces between buildings. Sweat mixing with the oil of greasepaint, the synthetic plastic stink of kevlar and the high cut notes of steel.
It was the closest Clark had been to him since that night in the alleyway the first time they’d met. Close enough to feel the warmth radiating off him, to watch the way the weak glow of lamp and floodlights caught on his cowl. Close enough to touch.
“Hn,” Batman grunted and the sound rumbled from deep within his breastplate.
“You called for me,” Clark said, “Why?”

Summary
The hologram of his biological father had initially made him overjoyed. To be able to see one of the parents who'd created him, to talk to him, to, at last, ask questions and have them answered - it had been everything he'd ever wanted since ma and pa had told him how they'd found him as a baby. It should've been a slotting into place, a joining of parts; a filling in of that terrible, aching gap in his chest he'd felt ever since the day his powers started appearing and he knew he was irrevocably different. This secluded haven, this part of Krypton tucked safely away in sheets of ice, snow, and permafrost, should've been a comfort.
Instead, it was a burden.
Clark struggles with an identity he feels he isn't worthy of.
Bruce knows exactly who he must be.Series
